About Connor

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’d describe my game as physical, smart, and goal-driven. I study the game closely, read my opponents well, and try to use their weaknesses against them. I play aggressively, compete hard every snap, and take pride in understanding the game at a high level.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m a positive, fun-loving person who enjoys life and being around others. I’m very family-oriented, and I try to bring good energy wherever I go. I’m always working to build my character and become a better version of myself every day, both on and off the field.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m currently a 3 sport athlete, so most of my time year-round is dedicated to training, competing, and balancing overlapping sports seasons. Outside of athletics, I’m involved in FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and attend a coach-led Bible study. I previously was a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Sports have helped me develop leadership, discipline, and time-management skills.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Over the years, I’ve developed strong teamwork and leadership skills through sports. I’ve built great relationships with the leaders in my programs and have learned a lot by watching how they lead and carry themselves. As I become an upperclassman, I’m looking forward to stepping into a bigger leadership role myself.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I’ve been fortunate to have a strong support system from my family, friends, coaches, and teammates throughout my life. While I haven’t faced any major hardships, sports have still taught me how to handle adversity, stay disciplined, manage pressure, and continue working through challenges and setbacks to improve every day.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college with a strong athletic program where I can continue to grow as both a player and academically. My goal is to compete at the highest level possible and hopefully have the opportunity to play professional football. Academics are also important to me, and I’d like to attend a school with a strong business program so I can continue preparing for life beyond football.

Smith can play off the ball or on the line, and he was part of a ferocious front seven for Middle Creek last season. He’s an impressive run defender with some pass-rushing flashes, and honestly, his raw numbers were hurt simply by other linemen finishing plays after his initial pass rush disrupted pockets. Expect a strong offseason in the weight room and for Smith to take the next step in his development.

When I scouted Middle Creek earlier this season, I came away impressed with the movement skills of the bigger Smith. He may ultimately end up as a full-time edge rusher, but right now, he’s a guy who can play with his hand in the dirt or off the ball. He plays with consistent strength to stand up linemen and play the run. We may ultimately change his position at a later date, but I like him with the linebackers as of this writing, thanks to his lateral movement and high I.Q.
