When Papio South’s star RB went down with a season-ending injury last season, junior Chester Mendoza Chester Mendoza 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Papillion-La Vista South | 2027 State NE was one of a couple of backs who stepped in nicely. Chester ended last season with 89 carries for 490 yards and nine touchdowns en route to helping the Titans make a state championship appearance. When you cut on the tape, you see an RB who may not be the biggest, but he is very tough with a fiery running style. His willingness to be physical with defenders, even seeking out contact to set the tone. Mendoza keeps his pad level and center of gravity low, allowing him to absorb hits and stay balanced as he battles through contact. He isn’t going down without a fight either, as he is willing to dish out a stiff arm, drop the shoulder, a leg pumping through contact, or he might even try to jump over you. Chester mostly operates as a north-south runner, but did show the ability to make subtle cutbacks in tight quarters. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of Chester in an RB1 role!
