Chester is one that got on my radar in the live eval earlier this season as one of Papio South’s playmakers that was making a ton of plays against Papillion-La Vista and that has continued throughout the season. Where I am seeing the growth even more for Chester is in the pass game, as his ability over the middle of the field shows much what could be a slot receiver at the next-level as I feel this young man has an open door for position flexibility. Not one that I can find on Twitter, but surely one that seems to flying under the radar as a running back that is very durable for the lack of size he might have.

Chester showed off in my eyes as a running back that was a grinder for in the carries I watched him get against rival Papillion-La Vista as one that was fighting for every yard he could get. He was one that also displayed good visiion that was also patient in the inside box getting his yards as blocks opened up. He also was more durable than he might get credit for at his size as he was key getting yards after contact for the Titans rushing attack in the reps I got to watch.

When Papio South’s star RB went down with a season-ending injury last season, junior Chester Mendoza Chester Mendoza 5'10" | 175 lbs | RB Papillion-La Vista South | 2027 State NE was one of a couple of backs who stepped in nicely. Chester ended last season with 89 carries for 490 yards and nine touchdowns en route to helping the Titans make a state championship appearance. When you cut on the tape, you see an RB who may not be the biggest, but he is very tough with a fiery running style. His willingness to be physical with defenders, even seeking out contact to set the tone. Mendoza keeps his pad level and center of gravity low, allowing him to absorb hits and stay balanced as he battles through contact. He isn’t going down without a fight either, as he is willing to dish out a stiff arm, drop the shoulder, a leg pumping through contact, or he might even try to jump over you. Chester mostly operates as a north-south runner, but did show the ability to make subtle cutbacks in tight quarters. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of Chester in an RB1 role!
