Trip Around Nebraska Standouts: Friday Edition

Although some WiFi issues might have slowed us down a bit, we were able to poke around on Friday night in the Cornhusker State and evaluate some talent in Class C1 and the battle for Papillion in Class A. These were the names that caught our attention in our live evals on Friday.    Chester showed off in my eyes as a running back that was a grinder for in the carries I watched him get against rival Papillion-La Vista as one that was fighting for every yard he could get. He was one that also displayed good visiion that was also patient in the inside box getting his yards as blocks opened up. He also was more durable than he might get credit for at his size as he was key getting yards after contact for the Titans rushing attack in the reps I got to watch.     Key fumbe recovery, 75 All-Purpose Yards, 3 tackles (2 solo, 1 assist) and two punt returns   You won't find much tape on Jack who just transferred to Papillion La Vista recently, but he was a key component in the reps I watched for the Monarchs defense. He was a persistent tackler in the reps I got to watch and not only was that the case, you could grasp the instinctive vision Jack had to collapse on the ball carrier as they came near especially over the middle of the field. He was one that was rangy as well, that had the knockback physicality you wanted to see from your defensive back.     Unfortunately, my stream went out during the Ashland-Greenwood/Syracause game later in the night on Friday night, but a defensive standout that I had logged from Bluejays defensive unit was 2027 cornerback RJ Goff. Another one that is under the radar with a lack of tape, but the ball-tracking ability he displayed in pass coverage caught my attention on a handful of reps.     322 rushing yards, three touchdowns   In their 41-7 win over Syaracuse on Friday night, Grayson ran for nearly 325 rushing yards with three rushing touchdowns to his resume. The 5'10 185 pounder not only showed his downhill running ability, but showed off more durability thru contact from what we saw in his sophomore season and appeared more fluid in his movement especially getting to the edges of the field. That durability skillset really sticks out with his runs in the inside box and his ability to utilize his change of direction shows even more growth into his junior season.     Wave is a new 2028 name to our Nebraska radar at the quarterback position and one that showed poise with some of his throws he made inside the pocket. The 6'3 205 pounder, showed off a quick release that from a ball placement perspective was right on point in his touchdown throw he had to wide receiver Chase Carson. His athleticism also showed off with his option runs outside of the pocket, as he utilized his big body to power into the end zone as one of two touchdowns he had on the night in the Bluejays win over Syracuse.   <a href="https://x.com/WaveGCerny" data-type="link" data-id="https://x.com/WaveGCerny">TWITTER</a>     Another quarterback this time in the 2029 class out of Papillion-La Vista that showed off peaks of his upside that are incoming is Prep Redzone Nebraska Showcase alum [player_tooltip player_id='2064990' first='Wyatt' last='Grimes']. Wyatt showed off growing poise as a sophomore inside the pocket and one of his passing touchdowns caught my attention the most, as he showed off precision that led his wide receiver in for six as those are the type of throws along the edges that should help Wyatt develop quickly as an early sophomore starter in Class A.
