has also received his first two Division I offers this month, as two Pioneer League squads, Drake and St. Thomas have each offered in the last week. In May, he’s also received offers from D2 Wayne State, Augustana, Upper Iowa and Winona State in addition to NAIA Grand View.
Set to play slot receiver at the next level, Heitland is a gadget guy that does a little bit of everything for DCG. Lining up on the outside and snagging go routes with underrated ball skills, taking handoffs on jet sweeps, running routes out of the backfield and serving as a returner on special teams, Heitland is one of the more overlooked prospects in the state. Slight of frame, he uses speed in the open field and quick feet to catch defensive backs in a bind, making them bite on routes before beating them downfield. Those same quick feet allow him to find space and burst by the defense, while his strong lower half and low center of gravity offer contact balance so he can stay upright and make a big play.
Last fall, he caught 42 passes for 520 yards and five touchdowns.

Heitland took a step forward in his development last season, contributing important plays and, perhaps, foreshadowing a breakout coming in 2025. As a sophomore last season, Heitland came up with 28 catches for 293 yards and a pair of scores. He carried the ball four times for 31 yards. He added a couple of tackles, including one of the solo variety. Heitland’s 10th-grade highlight video shows us how he gets the job done. A versatile receiver, he runs crisp routes and is capable of beating defenders over the top or across the middle. He makes people miss in space. A quick-twitch athlete, Heitland’s skill set works on defense and special teams, too.

Heitland being listed as a “football player” would be as fitting as labeling him an “athlete.” He’s a menace with the ball in his hands when given the slightest bit of space. His sharp cutting and ability to accelerate quickly makes him difficult to tackle. He can be moved around the formation, creating mismatches with the opponent. Heitland’s physicality and athleticism at receiver could work in the secondary as well.
