continued to have a strong season with arguably his best performance of the season. Matheson finished the night with seven catches for well over 200 yards and four touchdowns on the night. Matheson and the Cushing offense have picked up where they left off last season. Now, all eyes start looking ahead to Cushing’s massive week six match-up on the road when they take on defending champion Wagoner. It’s a rematch of last year’s state title game where the Bulldogs stunned the Tigers on a field goal as time expired.

after he finished last fall with nearly 700 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. Matheson is stepping into a new role this season with the graduation of star receiver Camden Crooks. Matheson will now be the top offensive weapon in the offense and will look to be the go-to wide receiver in the Cushing offense. Matheson was incredibly productive last season but it’s going to be a little different now that all eyes are on him as some of the younger wide receivers come along. But Matheson is a player that we think is ready for the challenge. He had a really good junior campaign and should keep that momentum going this fall.

is our first on this week’s breakdown. The first thing that stands out about Matheson is the production. It would have been disappointing if Matheson wasn’t productive considering how much of a machine Cushing was on the offensive side of the ball. He put up some really strong numbers alongside 2023 superstar

, who signed this week with Tulsa. That leads us to our biggest question with Matheson moving forward. What’s next? Cushing loses their star quarterback and Crooks, along with several other pass catchers. Matheson will be one of the lone returning players in terms of skill positions on offense and we’re curious how his production will look in 2023. But in terms of him as a prospect, there is a lot to like and he should be their leading receiver in the fall. He runs good routes, was a consistent playmaker and does a really good job with his feet when he’s going up for a catch near the sideline. He seems to always know where he is on the field and finds a way to get open.
