. At a good 6’5 270lb frame, he played snaps at both tackle positions but mainly at right tackle for the Wolves. He leverages his body incredibly well on reach blocks, getting great hand placement on defenders and fully turning his body to seal the edge for the ball carrier to run in space. In pass protection, he has good lateral movement and agility to keep up with speedy rushers and powerful upper body strength to knock them off course if they are not balanced. Heading into his junior year, Speer will look to improve upon his previous season in order to put himself on the map.
Violent OT that is a heavy striker and finishes his blocks through contact. At 6’5” 260 lbs. he’s got long arms and a well-balanced athletic frame. Showed great toughness for young a guy playing most of his sophomore season with a broken hand and still performed well. Excels in pass protection using his initial quickness to come off the ball and get into his pass set. Takes advantage of his length and foot speed to kick and slide cutting off edge defenders. Flashes the athleticism and lateral movement to recover and shift his hips based on defenders moves. Can improve his leverage/pad level as a run blocker but has a great skillset to build on and expected to be highly recruited as he develops and progresses through the recruiting cycle.
