It was time to bump Knox, who sat on our watchlist all of last season, while also leading HPCA to an undefeated season. His only knock was that he’s a low-volume passer on a run-heavy team. He has some athleticism to escape the pocket and pick up yards, even though he’s not going to be asked to have many designed runs. We like his arm, pocket awareness, and leadership, and he could have a bigger year in 2026.
While Knox started last year at HPCA, we didn’t see his film until later this offseason. He managed a run-heavy team well, while quarterbacking a state championship squad. We expect the coaching staff to put more on his plate in 2026 and look forward to seeing what he can do with more volume.
While he was the starter on a state championship HPCA team last season, Knox was one of the lower-volume passers in the NCISAA. That could change in 2026, as the Cougars lose an FBS running back and return the bulk of their receiving production. A dual-threat, Knox’s legs proved vital down the stretch, and we think he could see an uptick in passing volume in 2026.
Knox is one of two title-winning quarterbacks on this list, and though he wasn’t a high-volume passer for the Cougars, his leadership and decision-making were critical. The Cougars lose one of the state’s top rushers, so I expect Knox’s volume to tick up. Don’t be surprised if he uses his legs more, as well. The rising junior averaged over eight yards per carry with four touchdowns on just 25 rushing attempts.
