Butler burst onto the scene as a freshman pass-rusher for HPCA with 11 sacks as part of their perfect season. He’s a high-upside edge rusher with plenty of length, speed, and power. Too bad he’s unlikely to be a college edge rusher. Football is his second sport, as the freshman is a standout two-way baseball player with a mid-80s fastball and 100-plus mph exit velocity. Selfishly, I’d love to see him stay on the football field, though, as he has a bright future there.
Butler has speed, get-off, length, and bend around the edge. The only question for us is how much time he’ll devote to football, given that he’s also a standout on the baseball diamond. He was among the state’s freshman leaders in sacks, and we love what we’ve seen from him so far, as evidenced by his impressive top-5 ranking.
Butler’s ranked eighth in the state, but we’re not even sure he’ll play football at the next level. The big, lengthy edge rusher is also a standout on the baseball diamond. Butler had nine sacks, flashing in the running game as well. He’s already well put together and can win with speed or power.
A standout baseball player, we selfishly want Butler to focus on football, because he’s 6’4,” over 200 pounds, and can really move. He’s a two-way player we’ve listed as an edge rusher, and that’s where his biggest impact has been so far this season. With good get off and bend, Butler has ripped off five sacks in his first two games.
