Expert Analysis
Austin Butler | Prep Redzone Scout
Adrian Hughes was a very twitchy style wide out who found ways to make it difficult to be covered during this event. He was impressive in and out of breaks while showcasing his ability with soft hands and explosiveness. I really like what Hughes can and will do this fall of 2026.

This was my first look at Hughes, whom I ID’d a few months ago as one of my favorite underrated 2027 WRs in the state. He confirmed much of what impressed me about him. He was one of the top overall testers in attendance, and he flashed impressive footwork and burst at critical points of the route to separate. I already knew he could make plays with the ball in his hand, so this was a good exposure point to learn more about his game.

Hughes is a well-covered player for me at this point, but I will continue to pound the drum until he gets the recruiting attention that he deserves. Hughes has had a versatile background as an HS player, but is settling down as a receiver. He is one of the best YAC receivers in GA in the 2027 class, both traditionally as a receiver and as a returner. His foot speed and short-area quickness are impressive here, and that is what makes him a big-play threat. Just a simply elite player in the short areas who is a master of creating his own yards and generating explosives from all over the field.

I wrote about Hughes 2 months ago, but I still feel strongly about his game, so I thought he was worthy of another mention here. A versatile player whose development has bounced all over the place, but he is finally settling down as a WR. Hughes is quick, light on his feet, and a threat to score from any spot on the field. His short-area quickness is simply elite, and I think he has an argument as the best WR in the state with no offers.

Hughes is a former QB turned WR, and he is truly flashing his entire skillset at that position. Hughes, a basketball athlete, has quick, light footwork and is an elite playmaker in space. A true TD threat from any spot on the field. His short-area quickness and speed alone help him separate, but he maintains that speed while attacking cut-back opportunities and weaving. Hughes is one of the best receivers in the state that nobody is talking about and is deserving of some FBS attention.

A speedy Gwinnett County wideout who can score from anywhere on the field, Hughes is dangerous with the ball in his hands who can be a major weapon in the screen and short passing game. He’s terrific in the open field and it’s allowed him to have a really strong junior season so far this fall. The sure-handed pass-catcher has caught 32 passes so far this season for 437 yards and four touchdowns. He’s also a major contributor on special teams as a returner. His best game as a receiver came against Westminster where he hauled in five passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns, leading his team to a 31-14 victory. He’s a Norcross native to keep a close eye on the rest of the way this fall.
