The secondary unit is one of those units that is in the spotlight consistently. With the amount of talent at the wide receiver and skill positions having talented defensive backs is a high priority. In this article, we are going introduce some of the upcoming class of 2026 prospects to watch this season. A few names may be familiar and a few you are going to have the privilege of becoming familiar with.

[player_tooltip player_id='960148' first='Braylon' last='Edwards']-Cornerback-Wilmer-Hutchins-5'10” 180-Pounds

[player_tooltip player_id='960148' first='Braylon' last='Edwards'] has had the opportunity on display the past few seasons. He can rotate at the cornerback and safety positions. He has good speed and has no problem sticking with most wide receivers. Edwards is a prospect in the secondary that does not shy away from contact and good move up and make the tackle. The Wilmer-Hutchins prospect is a defensive back to watch out for this upcoming season. He broke up 13 passes and had two interceptions last season is looking to improve upon those numbers this season.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/3311761/6392ae252347be09e086fe18

Jermaine Bishop-Cornerback-Willis-5'11” 160-Pounds

Willis High School prospect Jermaine Bishop has the coverage ability that causes opposing wide receivers to have plenty of headaches. He does an impressive job of being able to jam wide receivers at the line of scrimmage. Bishop does a good job of making plays on the football. He has the hands needed to pick off a pass and take it the other direction. Bishop is another defensive back to watch out for over the next couple of seasons. He has the potential to have a strong season in 2023.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/16173057/63683bcbb023a304c803f263

Jailynn Davis-Cornerback-Waco-Connally-5'10” 135-Pounds

Jailynn Davis is a defensive back that has tremendous speed. He closes on opposing wide receivers quickly. The Waco-Connally prospect does a good job of making plays on the football. Davis has the coverage skills to make life difficult on opposing wide receivers. He is not afraid to play the receiver physical and make him work to catch the football. Davis is going to be a defensive back to watch out for this upcoming season.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/18176408/635282e90c5deb0a5475a1bd

[player_tooltip player_id='212421' first='Brayden' last='Robinson']-Cornerback-Red Oak-5'9” 150-Pounds

[player_tooltip player_id='212421' first='Brayden' last='Robinson'] is a versatile prospect that sees time on both sides of the ball for Red Oak. For the purpose of this article, we are going to look at the defensive side of the ball. He makes impressive plays on the ball. Robinson has the hands to fight for the football and win the battle against opposing wide receivers. He does a good job of wrapping up opposing ball carriers and making the tackle. Look for a busy season from Robinson in 2023, on potentially both sides of the ball.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/15948145/636c4031e97b9508ccdf7741

[player_tooltip player_id='284166' first='Jalen' last='Lott']-Cornerback-Lovejoy-6'0” 163-Pounds

[player_tooltip player_id='284166' first='Jalen' last='Lott'] is a defensive back that will see playing time on both sides of the ball this upcoming season. He is extremely impressive at both the cornerback and wide receiver positions. Lott does a good job of fending off blocks and getting in on tackles. He pursues the ball carrier well and does not shy away from making a tackle. Having worked on both sides of the ball gives Lott an advantage especially on the defensive side of the ball. Lott has already started to rack up division one offers, and I expect a strong 2023 season from him.

https://www.hudl.com/video/3/17954350/634710b40dc9bb04dcd6b3b4

The secondary unit is one of those units that is in the spotlight consistently. With the amount of talent at the wide receiver and skill positions having talented defensive backs is a high priority. In this article, we are going introduce some of the upcoming class of 2026 prospects to watch this season.
