About Braylon
Expert Analysis
Alin Edouard | Prep Redzone Scout
Braylon is a polished defensive back with the tools and temperament to thrive at the next level qualities that earned him a commitment to SMU. He plays with excellent technique and patience, never panicking in coverage and showing the ability to mirror receivers through the route stem.
Braylon has strong ball skills and a natural instinct for reading the quarterback’s eyes, which allows him to jump routes and create turnovers. Whether playing man or zone, he stays disciplined and understands how to position himself to make plays without taking unnecessary risks. His footwork is clean, his hips are fluid, and his break on the ball is sharp.

Edwards has been one of the hottest defensive backs on the recruiting trail this offseason. A versatile playmaker, he has the skill set to excel at both cornerback and safety. With great feet, fluid hips, and top-tier speed, Edwards is technically sound in coverage and has excellent field vision to track plays as they develop. A sure tackler who thrives in multiple roles, his standout ability has earned him offers from Auburn, San Diego State, Houston, SMU, Wisconsin, and Michigan State to name a few. As his recruitment continues to heat up, Edwards continues to prove he’s one of Texas’ top defensive backs in the 2026 class.

Edwards is a sticky defender, he plays with controlled aggression and he has the skill set to shut down one side of the field. He plays with excellent leverage and he has fluid hips that allows him to be in position to make plays on the football. Edwards has superb eye discipline and he tracks the ball well in flight. When he gets the ball in his hands he turns into an offensive weapon who has the speed to make a house call for six. His sophomore year he registered 86 tackles with 3 interceptions. Edwards will add his playmaking ability to the Duncanville secondary this fall. He has several offers from Arizona State, North Texas, Lamar, Texas A&M Commerce and Abilene Christian. I expect his bag of offers to get heavier heading into his junior season.

Edwards plays an aggressive, in your face type of game when he is on an island in coverage, he prides himself on getting hands on receivers early to disrupt their routes and he uses his extended length to close down passing lanes. Braylon has oily hips, he transitions into his back pedal smoothly and his ability to turn, flip, plant and drive on the football allows him to shut down activity on his side of the field. Edwards plays with great leverage, he comes up in run support under control and Braylon is a sure tackler in the open field who brings a thump with force when he attacks the ball carrier. Edwards had an active season opener, totaling 7 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery. Look for Braylon to continue to be a menace to offenses in the 2023 season.
