St. Ignatius dominated the trenches which allowed their team to rush for 7 touchdowns while also nullifying Grayslake Central’s ground attack. With as talented of a roster they have, if St. Ignatius can continue to run the ball effectively and dominate the trenches, then there’s no reason why this team can’t make a deep playoff run.
So without further ado, lets take a look at some of the prospects who caught my eye during this 2nd round matchup.
Rugai set the tone with a dominant first half performance by scoring three early touchdowns for St. Ignatius. He finished the game with 13 carries and 135 rushing yards to go with 3 touchdowns and proved he’s more than capable of carrying the load through a deep playoff run. He’s a versatile runner who has the speed to go the distance and the power to run through his opponents. Flashes good vision to find the holes and the burst to get through them.

The Yale commit had a solid night on both sides of the ball during St. Ignatius’ defeat over Grayslake Central. He rushed for three touchdowns and held their receivers in check throughout the entire game. Kemp without a doubt has blazing speed, but he also displayed some of his toughness and physical running prowess as he had to fight through defenders for each of his three rushing touchdowns. He’s fluid and quick from his defensive back position and showcased he possesses great instincts to consistently disrupt passes thrown his way.

Outside of the big boys up front, Opawuyi was without a doubt one of the standouts on the defensive side of the ball. He’s a mix between a linebacker and a safety and has the versatility to thrive in multiple schemes. He’s as sure of tackler as they come and was absolutely laying the wood to his opponents. Has a strong physique which enables him to hold up as a linebacker, but he also has the speed and awareness to make an impact in coverage. I’m going to go on a limb and say he’s one of the more underrated prospects in Illinois’ 2023 class.
This was the first time I saw Scott play in person, and I’ll be the first to tell you that he’s absolutely worth the price of admission. The five-star prospect set the tone on the first play of the game by recording a sack and reminding his opponents that they were in for a long night. St. Ignatius dominated the trenches and Scott was the driving force behind that dominance. He’s a professional pocket-collapser and does so with excellent strength and athleticism. The scary part is he’s only a junior, which means offensive coordinators are going to have to deal with this dominant force for another year—good luck.

Miller’s last game may have ended in defeat, but he still stood out as one of the best athletes on the field. He scored both Grayslake Central’s touchdowns and became the school’s single season leading rusher. Miller is an impressive athlete with phenomenal upside. He’s a natural runner of the football with great speed who has the size and strength to dish out and take punishment. He also adds value with his versatility as a pass-catcher. An all-around who exemplifies what it means to be a swiss army knife.
