There are MANY, MANY players/running backs who could be put on this list. I am listing the players who’s stat line stood out, who people recommended but most importantly, only players who either I watched live or was able to watch highlights from their specific game. For the best chance to be featured, send me your weekly film on twitter. My handle is “@DevinRecord”, please don’t have any hard feelings if you weren’t included.
Brown is one of the top overall RB’s in the state. After the O’Dea offense struggled in the first half, Brown got things rolling with 2 touchdowns in the third quarter. Jason’s speed in the open field is as good as it gets in the entire state. His ability to read defenses is next level as well, as he showed his ability to find the open field many times against a top 10 4A school in Bothell. Brown is almost impossible to tackle as well, he bounces off defenders left and right many different runs. He finished the game with 198 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns to go along with it. Jason will continue to lead this O’Dea HS offense as the season goes on.
Here’s a running back who needs more attention around the state and country. Cartez had a HUGE week 1 rushing for 191 yards on 16 attempts and 2 touchdowns, and he did that all in only the first half of the game. He showed off his speed many times, breaking through the defensive front 7 by zooming right by. He’s the type of running back who wants contact and he absorbs it well, bouncing off and going for more yards. He can bounce outside or take it right up the middle, whichever the defense gives him. He showed off his catching abilities out of the backfield a little bit as well. Williams will continue to grow off this big performance.
Highlights
You can NOT underestimate this senior running back due to his size. If you do, he will show you why that was a big mistake. During Cascade’s week 1 game against Marysville-Getchell HS, Thomas ran for 231 yards and a whopping 5 touchdowns. He absolutely dominated the Getchell defense all night long, being able to out-run every single one of the defenders, almost every time he touched the ball. His speed on the outside was apparent week 1 and it’s something opposing teams should be focusing on in the coming weeks. He has some of the best field vision I’ve seen, easily finding the next open spot in the defense.
Highlights
Johnnie Stallings
Johnnie Stallings
Johnnie has great size for the running back position but he also has the speed needed to out run opposing players. He is not afraid of contact at all and honestly, it seems like he embraces it. Stallings hits the open holes created by his offensive line extremely effective week 1. The senior carried the ball 21 times rushing for 145 yards and 2 scores to go with it. He has plenty of rushes that went for over 10 yards, providing a spark for his team every time he touched the ball. He always had 2 hands on the ball when absorbing contact, which will help him not turnover the ball this season. This Black Hills RB will be a name to watch weekly for big performances.
Ki’Marree is one of my favorite running backs to watch on the field. Lakes HS had a big 50-23 win over 4A Kentwood HS, lead by two-headed running back machine Washington and Leo Pulalasi Leo Pulalasi 6’1″ | 205 lbs | ATH Lakes | 2023 State WA . Despite Ki’Marree sharing carries with BYU commit Pulalasi, he managed to run for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns on only 13 rushing attempts. Washington showed great patience when attacking the holes. When he did, he hit the holes FAST, which was the key to his great performance. He was impossible to take down all night long, breaking tackles every carry he had. His elusiveness is as good as any other running back in the state, as it seemed like he had another switch when he saw green ahead of him. Keep an eye on this deadly Lakes RB duo all season long.
