Simmons, who had plenty of interests from multiple division 1 schools will land at Buffalo where he will line up at WR for the Bulls. Simmons is athletic and has the length and frame that make him a mismatch for defensive backs. Simmons is explosive out of his breaks and has the vertical to be a dangerous contested catch threat consistent in how he high-points the football. Simmons, who was a standout defender for UPrep as well, will likely be able to make a strong special teams impact for the Bulls as well.

The other big-time play making WR in Section V that is off to a hot start is Tyrell Simmons Tyrell Simmons 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR University Prep | 2024 State NY from University Prep. The pure physicality during and after the catch is made by this guy has been unbelievable to see. One play that stood out to me the most was against Canandaigua High School. Simmons ran a simple slant route and beat two DBs to the ball. During the monster TD catch, Simmons had three defenders around him going to the ground. Being able to have such strong hands and the ability to make consistent contested catches every game is fantastic to see. The natural athleticism to run around, through, and even jump over defenders that are attempting to tackle Simmons is elite play making at its highest level. Simmons has been a force on the defensive side of the ball as well, including his ability to get after the passer at the OLB position. As of right now, Simmons ranks in the top 5 in total receiving yards at 368 and will look to continue his dual threat ability the rest of the way for University Prep.

The 247 sports 3-star athlete has a very strong athletic profile and there’s no wonder why he already holds 5 D1 offers.  This track & field season Tyrell Simmons Tyrell Simmons 6'3" | 190 lbs | WR University Prep | 2024 State NY stands tied for the lead in all of Section V with a jump of 6’4” which is also a UPREP record. He also competes in the long jump, 100m, and triple jump. On top of that he recently won the Section V Class B1 Sectional crown in the boys high jump. And is now gestating up for state qualifiers where he stands a great chance at making states in the high jump and possibly triple jump. Has personal best of 11.64 in the 100m, 20 feet 7.5 inches in the long jump, and 44 feet 1.5 inches in the triple jump. Simmons has also high jumped 6’2” or higher seven times this track season.

Simmons made a few really impressive jump ball catches in the redzone but what gets him on this list is the route running ability he displayed in the intermediate and deep levels of the field where he truly was a dynamic threat for CTC.

While I have known about Simmons for a while he is starting to get some really quality recruiting attention picking up offers from Buffalo, Maine, New Hampshire and Stony Brook in 2023. Simmons now has 5 total offers which are the 4 schools who have jumped into his recruitment this year and Campbell who offered him last fall. Simmons has some cool interest from Monmouth, Penn State, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech according to 247sports and that would come to no surprise considering Simmons level of play.

Simmons has the perfect WR build at 6’3, 195lbs with a little room to add some muscle. As a player Simmons has that dominant “it” factor when it comes to attacking the ball and making plays. Simmons was in an offense at University Prep that featured so many quality playmakers that the ball was spread around very often so his numbers do not jump off the stat sheet. But his impact and overall sheer ability as a receiver is incredible. He has great awareness and his footwork both off the snap and down the field making catches against the sideline or in the end zone is elite. Simmons has elite jumping ability and routinely dominates 50/50 ball throws. When Simmons gets that sort of throw it really is more like 80/20 towards Simmons. Simmons also is a solid route runner, he has a good double move and has shown on tape he can create seperation at the intermediate level of the field. Simmons is also a very willing and solid blocker as a receiver.

Simmons Jr has elite length and size and is incredible in 50/50 contested catch situations. Simmons has great physicality and can be a threat after the catch with long strides and no fear running through defenders. Simmons does a really good job of high pointing the football and attacking the ball in the air in contested situations. Simmons is also a really solid route runner, smooth on deep routes and with really great long speed Simmons does a good job on simple double moves or one-cut upfield routes. Simmons also has some really nice blocking tape and his long frame make it really difficult for defenders to get off his blocks. Simmons has offers from Buffalo and Campbell and should get some more attention as the #1 offensive weapon this season.

Tyrell Simmons is an absolute freak of nature standing at 6’3” and weighing in at 190-pounds. Simmons has an incredible amount of length, speed, strength, and balance. He has the rare ability to play multiple positions at a high level. He has spent time at WR, OLB, DB, and can even long snap!At WR, the ability to high point the ball using his strong hands is unbelievable. Time after time, Simmons was able to make incredible catches in traffic, especially in the end zone. His ability to toe tap on the sideline, especially on out routes was marvelous. When releasing off the line, he does a great job of swiping the CB’s hands down to gain that early separation in his routes.Over at OLB, Simmons was able to play this position at a very high level. He does a great job at swiping the OT’s hands down when making initial contact. The ability to bend and use his power moves popped on film. There is a deadly inside swim and rip move to his game which gave a lot of OT’s issues at the point of attack. In coverage, his ability to track the ball and take any interception for points is there. Simmons truly is a special player that has goals of leading Section V in receiving yards and making first team AGR.
