While he did a lot of damage on offense as a ball carrier, I also really liked what Copenhaver was able to do on the defensive side of the ball. He lined up at inside linebacker and showed the ability to make plays all over the field, finishing the playoffs with 46 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and one sack. Copenhaver was also named MVP of the 3A State Championship Game. Gavin does a great job of reading his keys and coming downhill in a hurry to fill his gap against the run. He explodes through the open gap before the offensive line has a chance to pick him up and runs his feet through contact to stop the ball carrier before they can get going. Copenhaver is also very reliable in coverage as he is fluid in his pass drops and has the ability to read route combinations and put himself in a position to make a play on the ball. Gavin currently holds offers from Valparaiso, McKendree, and Dayton, and I can see him growing into a very solid player on either side of the ball at the next level.

Copenhaver finds himself on my Top Performers list for the second straight week as he made a huge impact on both sides of the ball. On offense, he ran the ball eight times for 158 yards and a touchdown. He showed that he is very difficult to bring down once he hits the open field, showing the contact balance to bounce off defenders without breaking stride and the speed to run away from the defense. He also showed reliability as a pass catcher, catching one pass for 16 yards and a touchdown on Friday. Copenhaver also continued to impress on the defensive side of the ball, flying all over the field from the inside linebacker spot to make plays. He finished the game with twelve tackles and one tackle for loss. Gavin holds offers from Valparaiso, Dayton, and McKendree, and will look to continue to impress college coaches in the weekend’s 3A State Championship Game.

Copenhaver had another impressive performance this past week in a 30-24 victory over Paducah Tilghman. He finished the game with 20 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Gavin is a downhill runner with the ability to break tackles without breaking stride and the speed to run away from the defense once he hits the open field. He also showed the ability to make catches out of the backfield, catching three passes for 30 yards and two touchdowns. Copenhaver also continued to show the ability to fly around the field and make tackles as a linebacker, finishing the game with eleven total tackles and three tackles for loss. Gavin currently holds offers from Valparaiso, McKendree, and Dayton, and I see him thriving at the next level as a player that can produce on either side of the ball.

Copenhaver finished his final regular season with a team-leading 72 total tackles along with 18 tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception. He does a great job of reading his keys and comes downhill in a hurry against the run. Copenhaver has shown the ability to burst through his gap before opposing offensive linemen have a chance to react. Once he meets the ball carrier, he keeps his feet running and explodes through contact to secure the tackle. He also has shown the ability to drop into coverage and read route combinations to put himself in a good position to make plays on the ball. Copenhaver also played a huge role on offense, leading the team in rushing but I like him the most on defense. Gavin currently holds offers from Valparaiso, McKendree, and Dayton, and I can see him growing into a very solid player at the next level.

Copenhaver got the job done on both sides of the ball, carrying the ball 12 times for 89 yards and two touchdowns, and catching three passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns on offense while coming away with 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, and a forced fumble on defense. At linebacker, he does a great job of reading his keys and coming downhill in a hurry. He fills his gap and gets through the line of scrimmage before opposing offensive linemen can react. Once he gets to the ball carrier, he does a great job of running his feet on contact and securing the tackle. On offense, he showed very impressive elusiveness in the open field, with the ability to make smooth cuts to make defenders miss. He also showed the ability to leak out of the backfield and use his speed to pose as a deep threat on wheel routes. Gavin currently holds offers from Valparaiso, McKendree, and Dayton, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see more come for him as he has the skill set to thrive on either side of the ball at the next level.
