is another quarterback that has been on my radar for a while now and continued to stand out this past season. He had an impressive junior year, completing 146/213 passes for 1,925 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 games. Johnson has a very strong arm which he uses to lead his receivers down the field in the deep passing game. While he is impressive as a passer, he is just as talented as a ball carrier, using his speed and athleticism to break away for long runs at any given moment. Johnson finished this past season as his team’s leading rusher with 136 carries for 1,287 yards and 16 touchdowns. I can see some offers coming Kanyon’s way going into his senior year as he has already been receiving some college interest.

, a quarterback at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School. What impresses me the most about Johnson is his ability to sling bullets deep into the backfield, showcasing his ability to quickly put the offense in prime scoring position. I also like Johnson’s electric speed on the ground, proving he can blast past the defense into the backfield.

A tall, mobile and increasingly polished dual-threat quarterback with a tremendously high developmental ceiling, Johnson turned in the very first 300+ yard passing performance of his career last week’s exciting 45-38 district win over Owensboro, completing 18 of 22 attempts for 336 yards and 3 touchdowns. Also surpassing 100 yards rushing for the seventh time this season, he generated 112 yards on 17 carries as the Maroons’ win set up a three-way tie for the district title that will only be broken after all teams’ regular seasons conclud. Ranked in the top 5 of Class AAAAA performers in passing (184.8 yards per game), rushing (126.8 yards per game) and scoring (10.9 points per game), he has completed 127 of 177 pass attempts for 1,663 yards and 15 touchdowns and currently averages over 310 yards of total offense per game. Tall and poised in the pocket, Johnson and his Maroons (7-2) will travel to Murray to close out the regular season this week and then discover their Class AAAAA playoffs fate thereafter.

. Kanyon had another strong performance this past week in his team’s win over Muhlenberg County. He had a very impressive game as a passer, completing 17/21 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns. Johnson throws a very impressive deep ball, using his strong arm to stretch the field and hit his receivers in stride. He continued to show that he is explosive in the run game, running the ball 15 times for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Johnson doesn’t currently hold any offers but he has received some college interest and has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.

. The junior quarterback had an impressive game as a passer, completing 13/17 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. While he had a strong performance throwing the ball, he was even more dangerous in the run game. Johnson was able to put his true dual-threat ability on display, running the ball seven times for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Kanyon doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect some to come his way eventually as he has received a solid amount of college interest and has the talent to play at the next level.

is another dual prospect who mainly finds success on the offensive side but also should be looked at for his defensive contribution. Johnson, a 6’4 200lbs 2025 grad, is set to have an amazing season this year after moving to North Hopkins High School. While playing at Muhlenberg County High School last fall, Kanyon had a productive season on the defensive end as he picked up 4 interceptions in only 8 games played. Despite having a tall athletic frame and high vertical leap to reach the higher throws, Johnson is excellent at reading where the ball is going to be thrown. On a lot of defensive drives, Kanyon is great at reading the QB and where his intentions are going. This enables Johnson to position himself in the right spots to either make a defensive deflection or intercept the pass. Johnson’s QB IQ from his own playing experience at the position helps him figure out what other QBs are thinking about when a play is being drawn out. This play style is unique and makes a significant impact on any defense looking to have a major advantage over the opposing offense. As of now, Johnson has received some interest from D1 schools, and I expect that to continue as he starts playing this 2023 season.

Kanyon is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks when it comes to running the football. There are two key factors as to what stands out in Kanyon’s running as a QB vs other dual-threat quarterbacks in Kentucky. First, Kanyon’s speed is difficult to match for most defenders. Second, he possesses “running back” juke moves to cut past incoming defenders. Johnson prioritizes most of his plays when on the run as opposed to sitting in the pocket. When he is not running with the ball, Kanyon can quickly get out of the pocket and fake a run until he sees a receiver that he can drop it to, and make the throw. Since he is such a threat running the ball, this makes it easy for Johnson to exploit the defensive weak spots and throw it to open receivers. His tricks sum up his high-quality in-game IQ at the quarterback position. Kanyon currently holds no offers or interests from other schools, but I expect that to change over the coming years.
