is another reason why we think this Chieftain defense makes a big jump in 2024. Shelton is going to come into this fall as one of the more experienced players on this Sapulpa roster and we’ve gotten a chance to watch him up close and in person at our Prep Redzone camps in the last two offseasons. Each time, he’s routinely been one of the top guys at his position and last season, he took his game to new heights. He would finish the year with over 70 tackles and nearly ten sacks on the season. This year, it’s not crazy to think that Shelton is going to be one of the top defensive ends in Class 6A-2 and can absolutely wreck the line of scrimmage.

has impressed us at multiple camps in the last 18 months. He has done a really good job during that time of improving and polishing his game so that each time we’ve seen him, he looks better than the last time. Shelton is a name that might be flying under the radar right now but similar to Humble at Stillwater, this is a big spring and summer for him. Shelton can be an absolute nightmare for opponents coming off the edge. He showcased that several times during the competition part of the camp. He used a variety of moves to blow by his opponent and get into the backfield to cause problems.

When I got a chance to go over the roster heading into Sunday’s camp, I immediately circled Sapulpa 2025 defensive lineman

as a player to watch. Shelton was one of the best defensive ends in attendance on Sunday and he’s continued to gain momentum since around this time last year. Shelton is big, physical and he has a really good first step. When it was time to go into the one on one competitions, Shelton put the opposing tackles on ice skates with that quick first step. Shelton reacts and fires off and does a good job with his leverage, staying low and getting into the backfield in the blink of an eye. Shelton is a really good football player and it’s only a matter of time before he sees his recruitment start to gain a little momentum moving forward.

In one of the better rivalry games every year in the Tulsa area, Sapulpa is going on the road to face off with Sand Springs in the Highway 97 rivalry. The Sandites have a strong running game that racked up over 200 yards and five touchdowns on the ground in last year’s win. To combat that, Sapulpa 2025 defensive lineman

will look to set the tone for the Chieftains on defense. Sapulpa is very talented on the offensive side of the ball but Shelton gets the spotlight for us this week. He could be one of the breakout stars this season based on what we’ve seen from him as well as the reports out of Sapulpa. The Chieftains are hungry for their first win in the rivalry since 2013. Shelton and a talented Sapulpa offense could make it happen Friday night on the road.

Sapulpa’s 2024 class appears to be pretty special but the lower classes aren’t lacking talent either. 2025 defensive lineman

had an incredibly strong sophomore campaign and he has the Sapulpa coaches very excited about his potential moving forward. Last season, Shelton finished the year with over 70 tackles and nearly ten sacks on the season. As he goes into his junior season, he is one of the few returning starters on the defensive side of the ball so he is certainly going to be in a position where he can set the tone for the guys behind him and the rest of the defense as a whole. Sapulpa’s coaches believe that he will take the next step this fall and become one of the better guys at his position within the state’s 2025 class by this time next year.

was another prospect that we were able to get a better evaluation on after watching him in person. Shelton was one of Sapulpa’s many standouts during the Claremore team camp back in late May and that, combined with what we already knew about the Sapulpa standout was good enough for us to bump him up 35 spots into the Top 50 at #48 overall. Shelton is also now a Top 5 prospect at his position and he was really impressive with his ability to come off the edge and cause problems for opposing offensive linemen. And this was a camp where some of the teams Sapulpa scrimmaged had strong offensive lines and Shelton answered the call every single time. We think he could blow up in a big way this fall.Access all of Prep Redzone
