As predicted, this was a high-octane matchup between the defending Division 5 State Champions and a big Division 3 state title contender. We saw over 60 points put on the board and 6 turnovers combined between the two teams, which speaks to the outstanding effort that was being played with on both sides of the ball.
1st Quarter, Coopersville 7-West Catholic 7

West Catholics defense came out HOT and were flying around early. They did a great job of mixing up looks by shifting DLineman late in the play clock and sending different blitzes often. WC was able to stall Coopersville's first drive as LB Luke Stratton knocked the ball loose for a fumble. WC came out rolling on offense as well with back-to-back big first down runs by Colin Abram and [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith']. [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith'] hit receiver Owen Hunter over the middle for a 40 yard gain. That set up Colin Abram to punch it in from 3 yards out. After WC forces another stop Coopersvilles Connor Ferwerda forces a fumble with a perfect form tackle. Corbin Motman is able to run over a defender to punch it in from 5 yards out after being setup nicely by the turnover and a DPI.

2nd Quarter, Coopersville 21-West Catholic 7

Both defenses were able to get stops on their initial drives in the quarter. However, I think 3 things caused momentum to begin to shift towards Coopersville. West Catholic began having their self-inflicted wounds, Coopersville started running Corbin Motman behind [player_tooltip player_id='1550079' first='Hunter' last='Hankamp'] and their hard nose guard on counters and [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly'] had time to throw. The Broncos offense was able to drive it down to the Falcons 30. From there [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly'] connects with receiver Jayden Timmons with a beautiful 2 ball, over the cornerback but in front of the safety. On the next possession Coopersville recovers a bad snap from West Catholic giving the Broncos the ball deep in Falcons territory. The Broncos offense made quick work of the gift from west catholic behind the legs of Corbin Motman and the arm of [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly']. Wyatt Kloosterhouse goes up and comes down with a spectacular catch in the back of the endzone rounding out the 2nd quarter.

3rd Quarter, Coopersville 41-West Catholic 21

West Catholic came out of the locker room on a mission in the 2nd half. As they quickly drove down the field and ended their first drive with a TD pass to Owen Hunter, dropped in the bucket beautifully by [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith'] from 33 yards out. Just as you think momentum may be shifting back, Motman rattles off multiple 10-yard runs with the longest being 20 yards, quickly answering with another TD of his own. However, [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith'] and Isaac Plum say "not so fast" as they get together for a 50-yard bomb that goes for a TD, bringing the score to 28-21. Just as you think things couldn't get any crazier Motman takes the handoff, gets behind his pullers and sprints for a 35-yard gain! He immediately follows that up with another 20-yard run. Then Kelly threads the needle to Jayden Timmons for another 6. West Catholics final drive of the quarter fell flat as their penalty and fumbling issues remained persistent. Once again, the Bronco offense capitalized off the Falcons mistake as [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly'] hit Corbin Motman on a rail route out of the backfield for yet another TD to finish out the quarter.

Conclusion

The 4th quarter was much of the same, Coopersville controlling the game on the ground (and through the air when needed) offensively and playing mostly mistake free defensively. West Catholics defense was helped greatly by linebacker Jael Djouguem and CB [player_tooltip player_id='2371181' first='Kenyon' last='Rembert'], both of who were making plays all over the field. Connor Ferwerda and Nash Devries and [player_tooltip player_id='1609917' first='Calvin' last='Rossman'] played exceptionally well for the Broncos defense. Corbin Motman had over 250 yards of total offense with 4 TDs. Jayden Timmons had 2 receiving TDs. [player_tooltip player_id='2248106' first='Champ' last='Kelly'] had 3 passing TDs while [player_tooltip player_id='1695945' first='Will' last='Smith'] finished with two passing TDs of his own. Coopersville went on to pull away with the win over West Catholic 41-21.
