Connor Jackson | Prep Redzone Scout
It was an extremely productive fall for Horne, who committed to App State earlier this spring. I ID’d this kid back in January as someone to watch out for as a riser. He is a shorter, stout prospect who is an obvious IDL projection. He is a really active pursuer with feisty hands and an impressive first step. He is the natural low-man up front, and his short bursts of explosiveness and hand-fighting skills tie everything together. This is teach tape for shorter IDL prospects. He is the lead disruptor up front for Newton, making him an X factor.

A big defensive lineman in metro-Atlanta who can really move and fire off the ball, Horne is fresh off a fantastic junior season where he made play after play in the backfield. Not only does he bring plenty of size at 6-foot-2 275-pounds, but he also plays fast in the trenches and has no problem fitting the gaps and causing chaos in the backfield. Not only was he a dependable run defender, but he also showed he can attack the quarterback in the backfield. The playmaking defender was one of the region’s more effective defensive linemen, making 72 tackles, 19 TFLs and nine sacks.

I just dove into Horne in the past week, so here is a quick recall to that write-up:
“Short, stubbier, stout IDL prospect. Truly impressive ability to win in several ways. Strong at the point of attack, can create push. Feisty hands paired with an impressive first step help him shed and work both shoulders. Active pursuer. Underrated. Would benefit from camping to get measurements, but the tape is impressive, and he is someone I will continue to monitor closely. Big fan.”

A powerful Gwinnett County defensive tackle with plenty of size and quickness, Horne was an easy addition to the latest rankings after a really impactful junior season. The playmaking 6-foot-2 275-pounder, playing against outstanding competition on a weekly basis, was one of the best in the region as he made 72 tackles, 19 TFLs, and nine sacks.
