Sam is a 2025 quarterback prospect that had some big shoes to fill as first year starter for Harrisburg and as our #1 overall prospect in the state of South Dakota, but the regular season end result positioned right as we expected. It took him just two starts to break older brother Jacob’s passing yards record in a game, which was intriguing as heck to watch play out. He got faster with his release from season start to season end, he developed sound mobility throwing from the run outside of the pocket, and certainly improved his arm strength and ball placement as well. Even though Sam is our QB1 in the Dakotas, I still see plenty of growth left in his game to develop and although I am sure there were doubters seeing him in that #1 spot in his class with no varsity tape yet out there, however he lived up to the hype and exposure I expected, which is why we believe so heavily at PRZ, evaluating prospects on their next-level potential, which Sam has been an example of that this season.

to make a splash at the varsity level as it took him just TWO varsity games to beat his big brother Jacob Knuth’s passing record for the Tigers, even though we at Prep Redzone Dakotas certainly knew the storm was coming from getting an early eval on him within the last year. Sam showed off some elite touch from the reps I got to watch on tape, as his ball placement was spot on with his wide receivers all night against Brandon Valley. He also showed what he has in the tank with his legs, as he added two rushing touchdowns to his already impressive resume as he shows developing mobility that is only going to continue to grow. Sam showed off not only a quick rhythm with his mechanics, but a ton of fluidity within his throwing ability as you can tell just how well-balanced he is with his throwing ability with the poise built into it.
He also really impressed me with his precision as every ball on intermediate routes, allowed his wide receivers to catch and burst out of it as he put it right on the sweet spot with his ball placement.
Sam has that fire-pop arm strength you want at the Division I level and shows that off on all three levels of the field within his throws.
Another skillset I wanted to watch was Sam’s mobility, as scouting Sam’s big brother Jacob (Minnesota QB) I was always impressed with Jacob’s mobility. What did I learn from watching Sam? This young man has those elusive instincts I look for in a Division I level target outside of the pocket and of course with Sam just entering his junior season, plenty of growth left in the tank for this young man.
To not much surprise, I also loved Sam’s character as it certainly looks like there will be another Knuth at quarterback for Harrisburg that will be playing Division I football Saturdays in the coming years.
