Continue ReadingI watched a lot of good football games this spring but didn’t get to see a ton of freshmen. Which is why I was excited to see Prep Redzone’s updated class of 2024 rankings.
The rankings were released recently and here are my thoughts on the few players from the Long Beach area who made the rankings and the watch list.
Ryan Pellum Ryan Pellum 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Millikan | 2024 State CA of Millikan High is the top-ranked player in the class and I understand why. He has breakaway speed, makes guys miss and can line up all over the field. He runs good routes and is explosive. Pellum didn’t impress me much this spring when I saw him in person against Orange but I was told he was playing with an injury which explains things. His club film from before the spring season is wildly impressive and it’s easy to see why every major school has already offered him.
Millikan gets on the board thanks to a Peter Kim 15 yard toss to Ryan Pellum. Sophomore to freshman. Orange 30 Millikan 6. 3:05 left in the first quarter. pic.twitter.com/d5piXESZkm

Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa 6'3" | 225 lbs | LB St. John Bosco | 2024 State CA is right up there with Pellum as the best player in the class. He is a linebacker who has the speed of a safety. In the Braves season finale against Mater Dei, he may have been the most impressive defensive player for Bosco. He plays sideline to sideline, can rush the passer, takes excellent pursuit angles and is a great tackler for a freshman. Ohio State is extremely high on him and they rarely recruit in Southern California so that says a lot.

Bosco defensive back Marcelles Williams Marcelles Williams 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2024 State CA is also a guy going to Ohio State camp. He is the younger brother of Max Williams (USC) and Macen Williams (Arizona State) and he may have the most upside of the three. He is a very good corner who got some chances and looked good this spring. He will get more playing time this fall and will have to guard the top receivers in the Trinity League but he is up to the challenge. Williams already has 10 offers including Arizona State, Michigan, Oregon and USC.
Had fun these past couple days in Columbus I had participated in a great camp, got to tour the facilities, see the football stadium, I got to meet some great people and I got to see why their DBU #GoBuckeyes 🙌🏾 @COACH_T_BULLOCK @boscofootball @OhioStateFB @premiumsportsla pic.twitter.com/zJlzVVklvX

Nobody has had a better recruiting June that Bosco safety Peyton Woodyard Peyton Woodyard 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB St. John Bosco | 2024 State CA . Georgia, Notre Dame, Alabama and Ohio State have all offered him this month. He didn’t get to play a ton because Bosco’s secondary was so loaded this spring but he has a college-ready body already and will get more looks this fall. He also can return kicks and is a baseball player for the Braves.
Peyton Woodyard 75-yard punt return for @boscofootball TD on his mom’s birthday. Nice present. @peypey_wood @NoraWoodyard @GeraldWoodyard pic.twitter.com/zNTYzKqvhK

Jordan Lockhart Jordan Lockhart 6'3" | 220 lbs | ATH St. John Bosco | 2024 State CA didn’t play a varsity snap for Bosco last season but he has been impressing people on the camp circuit. His older brother Benny was a linebacker for the Braves this spring. He is a really good athlete who has been a receiver before. Scouts view him as a potential dominant edge rusher. He has offers from Maryland, Ole Miss, SMU and Texas Southern.
Quarterback Myles Jackson Myles Jackson 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Millikan | 2024 CA played one game for Millikan this spring after transferring from Pacifica of Garden Grove. I like his ability to make throws on the run and make accurate throws from uncomfortable arm angles. He keeps his eyes on the secondary even when being rushed and has a plus arm. Jackson has offers from Arizona, BYU and Oregon State among others.
HALF: Millikan 28, Santa Fe 0
The last 3 pass attempts for Myles Jackson:
13yd TD
70yd TD
65yd TD
😳The 3rd TD pass went to Tacario Davis. Great first half for the Rams.
