Game Balls: District 3

I do the Muhlenberg Football broadcasts, so I got to see [player_tooltip player_id='1430242' first='Cameron' last='Small'] up close most of the season. The kid is a legit college football prospect. Playing his last game of the year he rushed for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns. The kid is just a football player. He also played most of the game as a safety. Small is a good running back who always seems to find the crease and make defenders miss. In the 2nd half of this game, they did not have their quarterback because of an injury, so he played the entire second half as the wildcat quarterback, and he continued to pile up yards rushing. Tip of the cap to [player_tooltip player_id='1430242' first='Cameron' last='Small'] on a great game and season.     As part of the broadcast that I mentioned above, I got to see Muhlenberg play Conestoga Valley. This was the first time seeing [player_tooltip player_id='1520428' first='Sawyer' last='Esbenshade'] in person. Boy can this kid throw the ball. He is exceptional at sitting in the pocket and delivering a good football. He also does a good job of reading the defense and finding an open receiver. He is a machine in the pocket the way he delivers the football to his receivers. Esbenshade has elite tools as a quarterback and should continue to play well this season.     [player_tooltip player_id='1091208' first='Eddie' last='Corkery'] is having a fantastic season for State College this year. The kid continued it with a great performance Friday night to get the big win against Bishop McDevitt. In what has to be called the game of the year Corkery outshined Kentucky commit [player_tooltip player_id='154352' first='Stone' last='Saunders'] and won a thriller 58-55. Corkery is having a special season for State College and it should continue while they play in the playoffs.     [player_tooltip player_id='269136' first='Michael' last='Gaul'] is a straight baller as a football player. He was one of the other heroes in the game. He had a pick 6 and had two rushing touchdowns. Gaul is an outstanding player who constantly plays well as a linebacker for State College. Gaul is committed to Villanova; they are getting a legit player.     Brandon Way continued his impressive season with a huge game in a loss to Schuylkill Valley. He rushed for 244 yards on 23 carries. Way capped an impressive year for the Junior running back. For most of the year Way carried the Crusader offense as he was the main player they counted on each week. Way has an impressive running style that is physical and tough but he also has the speed to score anytime he touches it. Lancaster Catholic will play a home playoff game next week, so Way will have a chance to continue to put up impressive numbers.     Some kids are just football players and that is exactly what [player_tooltip player_id='1417752' first='Madyx' last='Gruber'] is. In a Section 1 Lancaster-Lebanon clash against Manheim Township Gruber delivered like he has all year for Wilson. He threw for three touchdowns, rushed for another one, and had an interception. Folks this kid is a playmaker. He should have an excellent chance to play College Football in the future, because of how talented of an athlete he is.     [player_tooltip player_id='1520475' first='Derek' last='Katch'] continues to play at a high level for Hempfield. He threw for 295 yards and 3 touchdowns in the 42-18 win over Reading. Katch is a good quarterback who does a nice job of throwing the ball inside the pocket. He also is a good athlete that moves well inside and outside of the pocket.     [player_tooltip player_id='1508943' first='Gabe' last='Johnson'] is having a strong season for Northern York, and on Friday night against Palmyra, he put on a show at the running back position. He rushed for 240 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns in the win. He has great speed and can score anytime he touches the ball. He also was a menace on defense with 10 tackles. Johnson is a talented player who is playing well for Northern York.     [player_tooltip player_id='1520474' first='Josh' last='Smith'] is a great two-way player for Mechanicsburg. On Friday night's against Shippensburg he had 205 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He is a big play machine and he can score anytime he touches the ball. He also had an interception in the game as well. Smith is a talented player who continues to excel for Mechanicsburg.     [player_tooltip player_id='449560' first='Donovan' last='Gingrich'] has helped Conrad Weiser to a 10-0 season so far. A great accomplishment for them. In a battle against Unionville Gingrich was a difference maker with his arm and his leg. He threw for 118 yards and rushed for 68 yards as well. He also had two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown in the game. Gingrich continues to be one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the area.
