is a player that we have written about quite a bit over the last 12 months and the one common theme is versatility. Last season, Hammons lined up at so many different positions that we’ve lost count. However, when we’ve watched Hammons this fall, it looks like he’s settling in to the defensive side of the ball. Now, we still don’t know what position will fit him best at the next level but he’s going to end up at the next level. He’s already on the radar of major colleges and that should only continue once his junior film starts making the rounds. He’s a very fun player to watch on the defensive side of the ball and he’s just scratching the surface.

is one of the absolute best “swiss army knives” in the state. Last season, as a sophomore, Hammons would see time on the defensive line, at linebacker and in the secondary. That’s incredibly rare but Hammons did it at a high level and he was also their top tackler on kickoff. A little over a year ago, we started to watch Hammons as an interesting and versatile athlete in the spring. But he absolutely exploded and was incredibly important to what the Yellowjackets were able to do in 2024. And college coaches have taken notice. Hammons has very quickly become one of the top overall 2027 prospects in Oklahoma.

is the second Yellowjacket on this breakdown. Hammons jumped up from outside the Top 25 to knocking on the door of the Top 10. We started buying stock in Hammons during the spring of last year and that was before he absolutely exploded physically. Around this time last year, Hammons was known as more of a wide receiver and defensive back. He would end up playing on all three levels of the Choctaw defense. He lined up as an edge rusher, linebacker and in the secondary. Not to mention he was their leading tackler on special teams. And for all of those reasons, we have Hammons listed as an “athlete” on this update because he can play a variety of positions and do it all at a very high level. Hammons has quickly turned into a name to know within the state’s 2027 class. We think this could be a very busy spring and summer for him.

and he’s a very athletic prospect that can do a lot of things very well. When we got a chance to watch him in person back in the spring, he was working primarily at one of the cornerback spots. Hammons might just be a defensive back moving forward but for now, we have him listed as an athlete. His older brother was a standout running back for Guthrie a few years ago so Hammons has that playmaking ability in his DNA. But when you talk about Choctaw over the last few years, there’s no doubt that they are on the shortlist of programs that are producing DBs at a high level. If Hammons can fit in with that group, he’ll be on a good path.

is the first of two standouts from Choctaw on this breakdown. Hammons really impressed us in our limited viewing of the Yellowjackets back in the spring. He’s already having a strong summer on the college camp circuit. He’s impressing college coaches in addition to what he showed us at their team camp. Whether he’s lining up at wide receiver or on the defensive side of the ball, Hammons is expected to have a pretty big role for the Yellowjackets this season. We know the Choctaw coaches are excited about his potential and will have a chance to back up the hype this fall.
