<strong>Class: </strong>2022, Sophomore.
<strong>Get To Know Trevon Howard</strong>
Howard is one of Minnesota's top safeties in my opinion out of the 2022 class. Not only is a he a tough safety on the football field, but he carries a 3.7 GPA in the classroom as well at Minnehaha Academy. If you want to talk potential, Howard has it all as he got his first offer as a freshman from Minnesota as a 14 year old. He also trains with former Gopher great and NFL player <strong>Tyrone Carter</strong>, which goes to show his drive to learn from from the best. He also plays on the basketball team for the Wolfpack as well.
<strong>Best Part About Playing Strong Safety</strong>
"Strong safety I feel like is the best position on the field" Howard said. He said sometimes getting to float around to see where the ball goes is one of the fun parts as a safety as well as guarding receivers one-one. The biggest thrill? "catching a interception" Howard stated which I feel is relatable to any defensive back that plays HS football.
<strong>College Interest</strong>
Howard currently has two offers on the table. One from the hometown Minnesota Gophers and one from the <strong>Matt Campbell</strong> led squad at Iowa State. Besides the offers he already has, Howard stated that he also has good interest from the Buckeyes from Ohio State, Michigan State and Wisconsin. I see Howard's reach of just Big Ten and the Big 12 interest, expanding farther this season.
<strong>What Howard's Been Working On/Improving On</strong>
"Speed and strength" Howard said are the two biggest components his coaches said to work on. He also stated his 1 vs. 1 technique with receivers, etc. This summer, Howard trained hard 4 times a week on the 1 vs.1 technique and running speed. Also was a 4 times a week participant in the weight room with his Wolfpack teammates in the early mornings this summer.
<strong>Safety </strong><b>Mentor</b>
Howard quoted as his mentor at safety is former Baltimore Ravens all-pro <strong>Ed Reed</strong> who Howard stated "watching him all time growing up" Ed Reed is a outstanding role model at the Safety position in my opinion.
<strong>Individual and Team Goals</strong>
On the individual side of things, Howard is shooting for 4 INTs on the season and over 100 tackles. I also loved his team response as well as Howard wants to "be the best he can be" in getting the Minnehaha Academy/St. Paul Academy/Blake Wolfpack another state title. Trevon Howard is not someone to sleep on, I feel it's sky's the limit for this kid as far as his potential and range. Hope to see more this season from Howard and his Wolfpack team.
