Smith has been a consistent force off the edge, using his quickness, pad level, and leverage to create problems for opposing offensive tackles. Through the season, he’s racked up 47 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks, showing a knack for getting into the backfield and making impactful plays. His presence on the edge will be a critical factor for Nitro as they look to maintain their defensive dominance in the postseason.

The Nitro Wildcats have one of the best defensive fronts in the state of West Virginia this season, and 2026 EDGE Shamar Smith Shamar Smith 5'10" | 220 lbs | EDGE/DL Nitro | 2026 State WV has bolstered that unit even further as a senior. He’s new to the program, but certainly isn’t new to creating havoc as an EDGE/DE player. Smith has totaled 8 TFLs and 4.5 sacks through the first four weeks while also being credited with 15 QB hurries. His pad level, leverage, and quickness coming off the end make him nearly impossible to block 1-on-1 for offensive tackles in the state, which has led to his high production thus far.

We think highly of Smith as an EDGE prospect, where he ranks inside the Top 5. That’s a position that he can excel at in college at the D2 level. Smith will be another havoc creator at the Wildcats’ disposal on defense and will give offenses fits with the duo of him and Xavier Patterson Xavier Patterson 6'2" | 260 lbs | DL/TE Nitro | 2026 State WV along the defensive line.

Shamar Smith Shamar Smith 5'10" | 220 lbs | EDGE/DL Nitro | 2026 State WV is a bit of an unconventional EDGE/DE prospect given his 5’10 200 frame and even played inside at times last season. His quickness and agility are what placed him on our Perfect EDGE/DE Player build. Smith’s size benefits him at the high school level being able to dip under longer offensive linemen and being too quick off the line to cleanly block him. He’s explosive coming out of his stance and consistently penetrates into the backfield to create havoc.

Smith has the potential to make some big steps forward over the next two seasons and be a much more complete player by his senior year while showing some good early signs to this point. We look for him to take one of those steps as a junior and show the high potential we believe he has even further.
