Scene Setter - Broken Bow AT Sallisaw

There's no doubt that this is the game of the week in Class 4A as top-ranked Broken Bow goes on the road to face #6 Sallisaw on Friday night. This is an intriguing match-up for a few reasons. The obvious is that it features arguably the two top teams in an absolutely loaded district and they are facing off in the district opener. But the history between these two teams is also interesting. Last year, Sallisaw got the best of Broken Bow, beating the Savages 40-30 in week five. But two Sallisaw losses late in the regular season opened the door for Broken Bow to capture the district championship. That helped them make a run to the 4A semifinals before losing to eventual state champion Tuttle.   For Broken Bow, they come into this week after dominating their way through their non-district schedule. But the competition is about to be ratcheted up as they face #6 Sallisaw this week before hosting #7 Poteau next week. The Savages are led by their electric quarterback but that's not the reason they've been atop the 4A rankings since they came out on June 30th. This is a team that might have the state's best player but they have plenty of players around him to make them a true state championship contender. Through the first three weeks of the season, they've certainly played like that. But now that they are entering district play, they will be tested nearly every week. It'll be another opportunity for them to prove they are 4A's best week in and week out.   On the other side of the match-up, you have a Sallisaw team that is also 3-0 on the young season. They beat 5A's Claremore in the season opener and then took down two Arkansas teams in the two weeks after that. Just like Broken Bow, Sallisaw had last week off to help them prepare for Friday night's major district opener. And when the Black Diamonds take the field on Friday night, they won't back down from the challenge of hosting the top-ranked team in Class 4A football. Like we mentioned earlier, Sallisaw took care of business against Broken Bow, winning a high-scoring game in 2025. They know what it takes to beat the Savages and you can never underestimate a Brandon Tyler-coached team or they will make you pay in a major way. He put up some big numbers and has emerged as one of the top receivers statistically in Class 4A. Hall has been doing this for a while now, really since his freshman season. It's easy to focus on the QB position in this offense but Hall is a major name to know.   [player_tooltip player_id='1171160' first='Kade' last='Pratt'] - 2027 Linebacker   We're not quite sure what college coaches are missing here when it comes to senior [player_tooltip player_id='1171160' first='Kade' last='Pratt'] at the linebacker position. He checks pretty much every box that you would have for a next level linebacker. He has size, production and a motor that does not quit. It's no surprise that he's once again leading the Savages in tackles so far this season and he's always around the football.   [player_tooltip player_id='1171159' first='Kyng' last='Golston'] - 2027 Defensive Lineman   Sallisaw is going to want to establish the run game. That's what they do well and that's what Broken Bow can defend against. In addition to having Pratt at linebacker, they also have one of the best defensive linemen in the state. Senior and Tulsa commit [player_tooltip player_id='1171159' first='Kyng' last='Golston'] moved to Broken Bow after a very successful career at Valliant. After terrorizing 2A-2 football, he's doing the same in 4A.   [player_tooltip player_id='1837392' first='Mason' last='Mays'] - 2027 Running Back   The scary part about Broken Bow is the fact that they are not at full strength. They haven't had their starting running back to start this season but it hasn't slowed them down. Senior running back [player_tooltip player_id='1837392' first='Mason' last='Mays'] has been filling in and the Savages have not taken a step back at all. Mays also has a ton of momentum after having a really strong performance in their week two win over Idabel.   SALLISAW PLAYERS TO WATCH   [player_tooltip player_id='1596849' first='Calvin' last='Kilpatrick'] - 2029 Defensive Back   Here's the first of two 2029 prospects for Sallisaw that we were high on coming into the season and he's lived up to the hype so far. Cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='1596849' first='Calvin' last='Kilpatrick'] is a player that we've seen on the 7v7 tourney circuit quite a bit in the last two years. It felt like only a matter of time before he broke out on Friday nights. He's had a really strong start to his sophomore season.   [player_tooltip player_id='1678735' first='Kase' last='Adams'] - 2027 Quarterback   Coming into this game, a lot of the attention will be on Broken Bow's quarterback but it would be a mistake to overlook Sallisaw's signal caller. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1678735' first='Kase' last='Adams'] has gotten off to a really good start this season as a passer and as a runner. Sallisaw is always going to be a run-first offense but Adams has made a major leap as a passer. He's one of the better dual-threat QB's in this class.   [player_tooltip player_id='2250960' first='Kenyan' last='Hill'] - 2027 Running Back/Defensive Back   Senior running back and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='2250960' first='Kenyan' last='Hill'] was a player we were fired up to watch this season and he has not disappointed. Hill has shared the backfield duties in the past but now he's the starting running back and has taken the ball and run with it, literally. But an underrated part of his game is the impact that he's had on defense. He'll be one of the top two-way players in Friday's game.   [player_tooltip player_id='2231216' first='Luke' last='Warner'] - 2029 Tight End   Tight end [player_tooltip player_id='2231216' first='Luke' last='Warner'] is the other 2029 prospect to keep an eye on moving forward. He had a good freshman season and he's only gotten bigger and more athletic. He's turning into a tight end prospect who's ceiling is getting higher and higher. Going against a big and physical Broken Bow defense will really give us an idea of where Warner is at this point in his career.
