Inclement weather moved some of Minnesota's Week 3 slate to Thursday and Saturday, but that didn't mean the state missed out on some spectacular Friday Night Lights. Nearing the halfway point of the 2026 regular season, Minnesota preps are beginning to pull away from the pack and assert themselves amongst the state's best, most consistent, and most explosive, not mention most fun to watch. Some of these names had breakout performances this past Friday, and after combing through the 122 games on Friday and 12 on Saturday to highlight Breakout Performers and Stock Rising Standouts.

What a freshman find we have on our hands here! Hutchinson and Rocori did battle this past week in heartbreaking fashion for the Spartans, finishing 21-14 in what sounded like one of the best games of MN's Week 3 slate. Within the box score, PRZMN was able to find the Next Big Thing out of Hutch, 2029 burner of a tailback Lex Ostlie. With conflicting reports of height, I'd wager the sophomore is somewhere between 5'8-5'10 and around 180 lbs., and within that frame is some ridiculous, raw, and untethered track speed that includes eye-popping personal records from the 2026 outdoor track & field season including an 11.11 100M, 23.73 200M, 31'9.75" shot put, 19'11.75" long jump as a freshman. Also 6.99 55M indoor 2026 PR. Ostlie sure put it to good use in Week 3, rushing 37 times for 302 yards and 3 TDs (8.2 YPC) in the 21-14 win over Rocori. Also, Hutch is 3-0 with a big matchup with Marshall coming up this Friday. Talk about some upside here. Stay on the lookout for Ostlie's debut in the 2029 ranking

Here's some notes from the film we could gather:

TD run vs. Princeton:

4-yard TD run from the fullback spot. Bounced off a couple would-be tackle attempts in the process, one high, one low.

70-yard TD run vs. Becker:

straight up the gut between the tackles and blew by the free safety and defender like they had concrete in their cleats. In a blink, Ostlie was gone. Track speed and elite athleticism were oozing out of the big-time TD run against the Bulldogs.

72-yard TD run vs. Rocori:

quick, shifty footwork in the hole keeps defenders off balance and on their heels, where he can easily accelerate past them thanks to his absurdly quick feet and top-end speed

ran through and split two Rocori defenders in very impressive fashion, Physical, put both of them on their backs after first impact and the ensuing leg drive, and really showed off some special playmaking ability from the RB position for a sophomore of his size

got back up to top speed and outpaced that final streaking pursuer in impressive fashion. Looked like that last DB was going to catch him, especially after the brief loss of momentum, but Ostlie got back up into gear in a jiffy and showed off his nose for the endzone and want to score

Willmar over Marshall was the #1 most memorable scoreline and result of Week 3 for PRZMN. The Cards beat the Class 4A perennial contender 34-14 at home to cement themselves as a name-to-know in the race to the Prep Bowl, and RB/LB/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1694137' first='Hudson' last='Sjoberg'] is a big reason why the Cards are seeing so much success this fall. The 6'2, 205 lber. went for 22 rushes for 130 yards and 2 TDs, 3 catches for 52 yards and 3 TDs receiving, and 1 tackle defensively, and the film from the Cards vs. Tigers matchup shows a great get-off, Sjoberg slippery and powerful through blocking attempts, and the fact that he's a thumper of a tackler behind the LOS who can tackle 1v1 in space as well. You also notice the play speed, and his 44-yard run shows off contact balance, shifty COD ability and running style, and big play ability. In a 21-yard TD reception vs. Westonka, you see ball skills and vertical ability displayed wel on a wheel route, and in the 14-yard TD run vs. Fergus Falls, Sjoberg proved he can bounce off multiple tackle attempts in a single carry and drag extra defenders over the goal line, first down marker, or generally for more yardage post-contact. Should be a big year for Sjoberg and Co. if they keep this up.

St. Michael-Albertville is always a fertile recruiting ground for back seven defenders. The Knights' DBs and LBs always seem to be successful at the next level, and the 2026 roster has a standout returning starter in Jayden Karger who really stuffed the stat sheet in the Knights' 28-20 loss to Minnetonka in Week 3. Karger posted 14 tackles (4 solo, 10 assisted) and .5 sacks in the loss, and the three-sport athlete for STMA is also coming off a junior season that saw him tally 86 tackles, 11 TFLs, 3 sacks, 4 FFs, 2 and PBUs as a junior with the Knights. No updated tape, but the junior film displays a 1v1 thumper who will stick you in the fact straight up and win at the contact point. Karger possesses blitzing ability and is turnover minded, will rip at exposed pigskin in effective fashion, and attacks blockers with physicality and aggression. Visible play speed, production, and versatility against a heavyweight 6A schedule. No offers either!

PRZMN is excited to get Sleepy Eye United's 6'1, 200 lbs. RB/LB Keeyan Netzke onto the 2028 radar and eventual ranking's Big Board. Netzke got our attention thanks to his 17 rush for 193 yard and 2 TDs performance in the Storms' win over Murray County Central, 48-28. Against MCC film, Netzke displayed good vision, effective burst, and was slippery past tacklers in the win. He showed a hammer of a stiff arm that sent a would-be tackling sprawling forward onto his stomach in highlight-reel-worthy fashion. Then Netzke burnt those last two pursuers and used his homerun speed to finish the play for six. Netzke also owns impressive contact balance and can drag defenders for extra yardage post-contact, and is physical and will drop the pads and lower the boom at a moments notice.

Versus. BOLD, Netzke is a hammer of a blitzer off the edge of the LOS, particularly from a two-point stance, and vs. NRHEG, he displayed a big-time sack after beating the OT with speed, his ability to unlock hips, and body control when turning the corner as a pass rusher.
On tape, in a 33-yard TD reception vs. Milaca, Robran beautifully tracked and played a deep ball over his shoulder for a TD, smooth body control and ball skills, not to mention vertical ability. Had two Milaca DBs trailing him helplessly as well. In a 12-yard reception vs. Dassel-Cokato, Robran broke down and worked back to the ball cleanly on a deep comeback. Caught the ball away from his body, worked back upfield, and gained a couple extra yards after the catch thanks to those long legs and strides. PRZMN is DYING to get some more tape from this eye-popping WR and defensive back out of the Metro's small school ranks.

In case you haven't heard, Minneapolis Camden is making some serious waves out of the 612 this fall. The Eagles', who are led by Iowa State-bound 2027 DT [player_tooltip player_id='1642211' first='Zivad' last='Robinson'], have one of the best blends of size, speed, and athleticism in the entire state, especially in the underrated department, and amongst the talent is 2027 WR and stock riser Jacayre Smith. The senior is on an absolute tear so far this season, and he's currently sitting at #1 in the state in receiving yards with 467, not to mention his 5 TDs.

Versus Como Park in Week 3 this past Friday, Smith posted 9 catches for 209 and 2 TDs in the win over Como Park. He flew past the CP defensive secondary, you can really see him accelerate and shift into top gear when working vertically or running a deeper route. Smith also showed off some nifty twitch and footwork in the open field, producing a couple of beautifully-timed cuts to send some Como Park defenders sprawling past him in highlight-reel-worthy fashion. He did a great job of breaking down, changing direction, and matching with his scrambling QB when things break down and improvision is needed in the QB to WR attempted connection. Also trucked a DB after the catch and displayed impressive concentration when working over the middle and reeling in a catch between DBs and with potential oncoming contact nearing and nearing quick.

vs. Brooklyn Center, Smith tallied 7 catches for 145 and 2 TDs, and he proved he was a physical blocker out on the perimeter who can pancake and dominate. Showed a real fire under his butt as a blocker vs. BC in Week 2. S/o a god ol' fashioned rivalry! Smith wwas burning the Centaurs' defensive secondary vertically in both man and zone coverage. Torching them after the catch as well. Tracks the deep ball smoothly, plays and fights through contact and aggressive man coverage, and scored on an easy end-around thanks to his top-end speed.

vs. SSP, Smith posted 7 catches for 113 and 1 TD in Week 1. The X receiver torched SSP's defensive secondary over the top, displayed great ball skills to reel in a tip drill from an attempt on the 50/50 ball by the Packers' corner, as well as strong hands that can reel in low balls as well. He's smooth and concise at the top of the route, accelerates out of his breaks, and displayed strong lower body and contact balance, especially at his size. Smith also demonstrated strong hands pluck the ball out of the air and away from his body and can cut at top speed and is sudden and twitchy after the catch. Keep an eye out for this stock riser in the state's receiving leaderboards this falL!

Upsala/Swanville is home to a breakout, stock rising RB in junior Dalton Welinski. The reported 6'1, 185 lber. posted 39 carries for 220 yards and 1 TD in the 28-7 win over BBE, and he needs to update more tape, though he does have a TD run vs. Parkers Prairie posted. In it, Welinski showed an excellent ability to cut and break at top speed, good vision, and relentless, hair-on-fire run style and attitude with the rock in-hand. I want more film ASAP! Dalton: please update your Hudl, sir!
