IA Class 2A Recap From Week 4 2026

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Through week 4 of the 2026 high school football season, more than half of the teams in Class 2A Iowa are sitting with at least a record above .500, an impressive number as these times all sit with a viable chance of reaching the playoffs at the end of the regular season, though as the conference games continue to unfold, some of these contenders will start to topple one another, giving a clearer perspective of who's really on top and in the most favorable position to compete for the 2A state title. We take a look this week at the top games and standouts from Class 2A Iowa to recap week 4 of the 2026 high school football season!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Top Games:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Wilton vs. <strong>Mid-Prairie: 20-19</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>One of the most anticipated matchups of the week was the battle between Wilton and Mid-Prairie, and just like last season, the game ended up as a one-point deficit in favor of the Golden Eagles. The game was close throughout, with the Golden Hawks leading 17-13 entering the 4th quarter, thanks in part to a steady performance over the air. The Beavers persevered, and thanks in part to a well-rounded performance on offense compiling 367 total yards of offense, the Beavers scored with less than a minute remaining to cut the Golden Hawks' lead down to just 1 point. They decided to gamble for the 2 point conversion to win, but their final run attempt was stuffed at the line of scrimmage, giving the Golden Hawks another exciting victory as they improve to 3-1. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1896856' first='Brooks' last='Weber'] (SR) - </strong>Weber enjoyed a fruitful performance on Friday night, ripping apart the Beavers' secondary, which did more than enough to compensate the total lack of production they had on the ground. Weber finished 20 of 27 for 236 yards, 2 TDs, and an INT on Friday night. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">West Burlington Notre Dame vs. <strong>Mediapolis: 29-28</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>On homecoming night, Mediapolis looked to please the full crowd by taking down the rival Falcons at home, where Mediapolis has joined sustained success in this rivalry historically. However, the Falcons were able to keep it close throughout, and trailing 29-22 late in the 4th quarter, the Falcons entrusted on their strong run game to help push them down the field, scoring a TD with just over a minute left in regulation. The Falcons opted to go for 2 to try to push for the win. However, their rush attempt on the goal line was snuffed, allowing the Bulldogs to run out the clock and secure the homecoming victory as they push ahead with a 3-1 start. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Cayson Fuhrer (SO) - </strong>Fuhrer played a big role in the Bulldogs' effective rushing attack on Friday night as well as flashing his skillset as a two-way threat. Fuhrer finished with 88 rushing yards (6.8 YPC) and 2 rushing TDs while also completing a pass for 26 yards and making a 2PT conversion. Defensively, Fuhrer recorded 3 tackles and an INT. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Osage </strong>vs. North Fayette Valley: <strong>24-19</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Osage upset the TigerHawks last season, and they were looking for revenge at home in week 4 to try to spur the Green Devils' red hot start to the 2026 season. Osage exploded to a fast start, taking a 16-0 by the end of the 1st quarter. Things cooled down, and the TigerHawks clawed their way back in the second half, cutting the deficit to 3 entering the 4th quarter. However, thanks in part to a steady run game and a jarring defense which forced 3 fumbles on the TigerHawks throughout the night along with 2 turnovers, the TigerHawks were thrown off their groove, and Osage was able to hold on to the one-score lead for the win as they move up now to 4-0; one of 5 teams that remain undefeated in the 2A conference currently. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1706496' first='Gavin' last='Muller'] (SR) - </strong>Muller delivered a brilliant performance on both sides of the ball, doing more than enough to almost single-handedly defeat the TigerHawks with his presence. Muller ran for 152 yards (5.2 YPC), a rushing TD, and a 2PT conversion. Defensively, he led the group with 10 tackles (9 solo), 5 TFLs, a sack, and a forced fumble. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Unity Christian</strong> vs. Cherokee Washington: <strong>23-16</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Despite their historical success over the Braves, the Knights had lost 3 of their last 4 matchups to the Braves and entered week 4 sitting with a winless record. After having scored a combined 26 points over their first 3 games, the Knights were able to generate traction offensively, finishing with a combined 244 yards from scrimmage. While the Braves outgained Unity Christian, their performance was riddled with turnovers, with 3 costly interceptions, which came back to bite them in the end. The Knights escaped with the road victory, earning their first win of the season as they look to build their way back in the right direction. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Cade Vander Veen (JR) - </strong>Vander Veen was involved in multiple facets for the Knights on Friday night, playing a huge role in taking down the Braves. Vander Veen ran for 50 yards on the ground while catching 3 passes for 53 yards and a receiving TD, while also scoring a 2PT conversion. Defensively, he finished 2nd on the team with 7 tackles (All solo) and 2 INTs. On special teams, he averaged a whopping 52.2 yards per punt on 5 punts. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">West Branch vs. <strong>Monticello: 14-7</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Perhaps the biggest shocker of the week in the conference was Monticello stunning the Bears at home. After having gone winless last season, and having lost their last 13 games in a row dating back to 2024, the Panthers finally pulled it off against a struggling West Branch team, emerging right away to a 14-0 lead at halftime. The offense for West Branch struggled all night, failing to garner any traction in the passing game, and while the Panthers' passing game was erratic, they were able to connect with a couple of haymakers that struck the throats of the Bears' secondary, which ultimately proved too much to overcome. For the Bears, this loss magnifies the struggles they have had this season, and this will be a hard pill to swallow as they try to salvage their season which is already in shambles. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Isaac Kray (SR) - </strong>Kray generated the big plays for the Panthers' on offense that helped give the spark to edge out the Bears. Kray was able to find a connection with his QB on two long TD plays from 26 and 69 yards out, the lone two scores of the game for Monticello.
