IA Class 1A Recap from Week 2 2026

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Concluding our second official week of high school football across Iowa, there were plenty of blowouts and lopsided matchups in the 1A conference that dominated the theme of the week in that area, but the conference certainly had their moments with some outstanding finishes and close games that made for good viewing both in person and through streaming, and the entertainment value that this conference will provide over the course of the year should remain very much fruitful for audiences. We take a look today at the top results and standouts from Class 1A Iowa over week 2 of the 2026 season!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Top Games:</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Columbus Catholic vs. <strong>Grundy Center: 20-17 (OT)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Not a promising look so far for the 1A powerhouse to nearly start the season 0-2, but the Spartans persevered against a competitive Sailors' unit. The Spartans committed 4 turnovers as the Sailors emerged to a 14-0 lead through 3 quarters. However, they never let down, roaring their way back to life in the 4th quarter, and tying the game with 28 seconds remaining in regulation. In OT, the Sailors struck first with a field goal, but the Spartans would end the game with a 7 yard TD run from JR [player_tooltip player_id='2067026' first='Cooper' last='Keller'] to sail past Columbus Catholic in narrow fashion. A solid rebound, though the Spartans will have a lot of work to do this season if they want to stay afloat in the 1A conference as they have generally done. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='2067026' first='Cooper' last='Keller'] (JR) - </strong>Capping off a solid night with the winning TD was sweet, and Keller proved to be the most consistent force for the Spartans' offense on Friday night, rushing for 92 yards on just 10 carries while adding a team high 59 receiving yards on just 2 receptions. He also recorded 4.5 tackles (4 solo) on defense, made 2 PATs, and handled punts and kickoffs 3 times each. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Aplington-Parkersburg</strong> vs. Dike-New Hartford: <strong>32-7</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>The Falcons' week 1 upset may no longer be seen as a fluke anymore as they pulled off their 2nd straight win against a premier opponent, with that opponent being the 2A Wolverines, and once again doing so in dominant fashion. The Falcons didn't have a great performance offensively, finishing with just 233 yards of total offense, but their defense completely shut down DNH, forcing 4 turnovers, and limiting their consistently potent run game to a measly 41 total yards on the ground and an average of 1.5 yards per carry. This win further suggests the Falcons' unexpected rise in the 1A conference, and may now even put them among dark-horse contention for the conference this season. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1601499' first='Mason' last='Pruisner'] (JR) - </strong>Pruisner enjoyed a strong two-way performance leading the way for the Falcons' on Friday night, bulling his way for 67 rushing yards and 2 TDs, but it was his dominance at OLB that stood out the most, finishing with 5 tackles, 4 TFLs, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble on DNH. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Pleasantville</strong> vs. Pella Christian: <strong>16-15</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>While Pella Christian has generally dominated this rivalry, the Trojans have now won each of their last 3 matchups against the Eagles, and all three matchups were excitingly close affairs. Both teams were able to chip away at each other in the first half, with the Eagles leading 15-10 at halftime before things simmered down in the 2nd half. In a physically demanding showdown, the Trojans stormed their way to 349 yards of total offense, proving to be the more well-rounded unit of the two, and took the lead with a TD with 11 minutes to go as they would hold on for the hard-earned victory to earn a 2-0 start. Interestingly, each of the last 2 matchups between these foes were decided by a 1-point margin, and Pleasantville has been able to find the slight edge in both instances. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: JJ Phillips (SR) - </strong>Phillips helped the Trojans' offense overcome injuries at the QB position with a solid performance on the ground, rushing for 87 yards on 20 carries and the eventual game-winning rushing TD early in the 4th quarter. He also led the defense with 5 total tackles (All solo) along with a TFL. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Hudson</strong> vs. Cascade: <strong>12-10</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>Another messy affair between close foes, Hudson had lost 3 of their last 4 matchups against the Cougars entering this game, but they were able to take advantage of what was an uneven day for both teams. The Pirates were able to control the game on the ground, rumbling for 195 total yards on the ground while limiting the Cougars to just 63 total rushing yards. Trailing 10-6 in the 4th quarter, the Pirates took the lead through the ground before letting their defense swarm the pocket as they had all night, capping off an impressive 9 TFL/4 sack performance with another key stop in the 4th to seal the win, giving the Pirates their first win of the season. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: Grady Moseley (SR) - </strong>Leading the way for a potent defense that put pressure on the Cougars all night, Moseley finished with 4.5 tackles (4 solo), 3.5 TFLs, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble on Friday night. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Durant vs. <strong>Lisbon: 51-14</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li>For the Lisbon Lions, they finally snapped a 9 game losing streak dating back to last season as they steamrolled the Wildcats on Friday night. Lisbon completely dominated on the ground, emerging for a total of 313 rushing yards and 6 TDs while averaging 10.4 YPC as a unit, while their defense was able to force 2 turnovers. After leading 14-8 in the first half, the Lions went on an unprecedented run, outscoring the Wildcats 37-6 through the final 24 minutes to secure their first win of the year, vanquishing the winless season they went through last year, and giving the Lions promise as they look to reshape their future as a program. </li> <!-- /wp:list-item --></ul> <!-- /wp:list --> <!-- wp:list --> <ul class="wp-block-list"><!-- wp:list-item --> <li><strong>Top Performer: [player_tooltip player_id='1656906' first='Ryder' last='Meeks'] (SR) - </strong>It seemed that every time Meeks got his hands on the ball Friday night, he posed as a threat to break out a long play every time. Meeks ran for 193 yards (11.4 YPC) and 3 TDs while adding a 65 yard TD reception.
