CBC Wins Big - Where Stop Was Right, Where Stop Was Wrong

And it was a big one. This was two straight weeks for the Cadets scoring 56+ points against quality opponents. After beginning the year with a disappointing and uncharacteristic big loss in a big game against Louisville Trinity, they followed up with a tight win versus SLUH, before racking up a pair of wins in what were effectively name-your-score-games. The last 9 quarters of football resulted in 129 points scored. CBC appeared to start clicking.   [player_tooltip player_id='1601158' first='Daylen' last='Austin-Harvey'] is a dawg.    The junior quarterback has looked like the best player on the field for two straight weeks. DAH put up 453 total yards, 7 total TDs against De Smet, and then followed up with 299 total yards, 3 total TDs against Vianney. The dual threat ability for DAH makes him a dangerous player out of the backfield. When he finds space, he makes explosive plays with a ton of wiggle and lateral juice, and completed over 67% of his passes over the past couple weeks, flashing efficiency as a field general, putting the ball in the hands of players in position to make big plays.    A spatial showdown of stallions - CBC just has more.   Senior [player_tooltip player_id='1188262' first='Arness' last='Webb'] was once again a main target of the CBC offense, and set up one score with a big catch and run to set up 1st and Goal and CBC's first score on the night. He finished with 3 catches for 72 yards.   Junior [player_tooltip player_id='1222940' first='Kingston' last='McPike'] had three plays over 20 yards with a pair of catches and a kick return - 69 total yards for him.    Junior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1601023' first='Isaiah' last='Thomas'] had the biggest night in the passing game. Thomas put CBC in the leaded for good effectively at 14-7 in the 2nd quarter, with his 22 yard shovel pass score, where he made a man miss and jogged in. Would've had another from 70+ yards out, where he where he made the first man miss and strided his way to the paint, that was wiped out by an illegal block. He scored the only receiving touchdown of the night and finished just under the century mark at 98 yards on 3 catches. He has great size, fluidity and twitch in his athletic ability, and could be one to watch for a big second half of the season.    Factoring in the work done on the ground by [player_tooltip player_id='1612680' first='Jaleel' last='Walker'] and Caden Shea, and the impact defensively by the second and third levels by players like [player_tooltip player_id='1740562' first='Milton' last='Proctor III'], [player_tooltip player_id='2229038' first='Jakah' last='Cooper'], [player_tooltip player_id='1673282' first='Joshua' last='Beasley'], [player_tooltip player_id='1324012' first='Cole' last='Rivers'], Gabriel Wilson, amongst others, and CBC was able to largely overwhelm.   Vianney would put up a valiant effort.   This program kept fighting, scrapping, and clawing throughout the night all the way until the finish even after both programs subbed in their full depth charts, which speaks to the culture in the locker room. They began the 4th quarter within two scores, and at that point, the offense had scored twice in the 3rd and had some momentum behind it.    The catalyst behind the Vianney attack is the young freshman quarterback, and he showed lots of promise on a Friday night versus CBC, flashing his playmaking and creativity several times throughout the night. Futrell threw for 223 and a pair of scores, and also ran for one at a critical point in the 2nd quarter when CBC was smelling blood in the water, combining for 3 total scores and over 300 total yards. Futrell needed his escability with the level of pressure the CBC defensive front seven put on him, but things happen when he is able to use his legs to extend plays. He has a ways to go in development, it's only his 4th start, but seems to have a bright future and is one to watch grow.     Williams is headed on to play Division I ball and looked like a Division I dude on Friday night. He had the best night of any of the birds on the perimeter, leading both teams in catches (7) and yards (111). Displayed fast hands and ability to make tough catches in traffic, short area burst, and very good athletic ability to go along with his size and length. He was one of the best looking prospects on the field. Was critical in keeping Vianney in the game in the first half, particularly on the drive in the 2nd quarter that closed the gap to 21-14.     Thought Thomas had a big explosion play on the first drive of the game, where he made a man miss and turned on the jets to find the paint to put Vianney up 7-0 before it all got called back on account of an illegal block. First Vianney score of the third quarter, Thomas took a Futrell pass from the 25 and fought his way across the goalline in a big time play that closed the gap to two scores coming out of the break. Thomas finished with 84 yards on 6 catches and looks like a top receiving prospect in the State of Missouri for the Class of 2029.    These two particular receivers showed they can do damage with Futrell is able to distribute the football. They put athleticism and ball skills on display.     <h2 class="wp-block-heading">WHERE STOP WAS WRONG</h2>   Gabriel Wilson had a 70 yard kickoff return to the house.   On X, we posted that scoring play made by Webb. That 8 looked much like a 6 in live action, but after film review, it was in fact Gabriel Wilson that went 70 yards to the paint after Vianney closed the lead to 7 points in the 2nd quarter, a real destructive moment for any momentum that Vianney was trying to regain after scoring first on the first drive.   Check out this LINEBACKER showing some speed and wiggle in the return game.    The CBC backfield made an impact.   In the preview, the backfield tandem of [player_tooltip player_id='1612680' first='Jaleel' last='Walker'] and Caden Shea was overlooked. Walker delivered the bulk of the production with 11 carries for 100 yards, and both tailbacks got tough yards on tight zone scores throughout the game. That included the 4th quarter, where they both had their hand in putting the nail in the coffin finding the endzone in goalline situations.   Also credit the CBC offensive line for paving the way and opening up some gaping holes for these ball carriers.   [player_tooltip player_id='1198142' first='Robert' last='Eatherton'] was taken out of the game.   There is nothing false about the fact that Eatherton is putting together a quality year playing for the first time since 2024. In Vianney's opening week win, he allowed them to control the game by ground and pound domination with the rock.
