Can RFH Ryde Izzo to Another Title? How Legit is Simpkins?

SECOND

One of my guiltiest pleasures when ranking prospects for Prep Redzone New Jersey is picking-and-choosing to highlight prospects that I thought had outstanding film. As part of our class of 2027 player rankings update, I get to highlight those prospects who put on a show with their highlight reels. Below are a handful of prospects who have film that left an impression on me.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for the latest New Jersey high school football prospect news and not miss a beat!

[player_tooltip player_id='1883013' first='Kameron' last='Simpkins'], a prospect that actually got re-evaluated this cycle, is one that there is cause to be excited for. Ranked the 15th best linebacker (138th overall) in the state for 2027, Simpkins does an excellent job bailing on his drop, while keeping his eyes on the quarterback, in order to clog passing lanes and intercept passes. As 7v7-ish as this sounds, Simpkins is not a finesse player by any measure. With explosion evident in his closing speed, Simpkins runs through opponents at full speed, with full force, totally dumping them in the process; moreover, that same closing speed allows him to key on #3, making tackles for loss look like they come easy. His smarts appears on tape too. We see that he will pressure and actively attack the ball when chasing from behind.

Another outstanding football factory in our state, Somerville is home of [player_tooltip player_id='1924106' first='Shyheim' last='Hobbs-Harris'], a big bodied linebacker whose signature is his hustle. The leader of the pack, Hobbs-Harris is often the first man downfield on kickoff. For whatever reason, it seems as though he has a lot of freedom to play in the Pioneer's defense. Off the edge Hobbs-Harris has a very quick get off, but yet the athleticism to play off of the ball. He also uses his body as a gap-plugger, routinely forcing bounces. all this, with the ability to cover ground quickly and wrap well, makes Hobbs-Harris a disruptive football player.

Part of what I think makes Rumson-Fair Haven so good every year is that it appears that they roster many prospects who look like they have been playing football since about the age of 6 - [player_tooltip player_id='1882875' first='Ryder' last='Izzo'] included. As a running back, Izzo runs behind his pads and has just enough speed to separate from many - while also being strong enough to shrug off weak arm tackles. Izzo's pad level translates from offense to defense, as he is a linebacker who keeps his eyes on a swivel when defending the pass. Blessed with a clear and distinct second speed, we see him also showcase balance to avoid getting tripped up when motoring at top speed. A though style of running and defending makes me categorize Izzo as a physical, aggressive tackler who, when at running back, keeps piles moving by keeping his feet moving.

The Hanratty legacy carries on in Bernards with [player_tooltip player_id='1940835' first='Tyce' last='Hanratty']. From one linebacker to another, Hanratty routinely puts solid licks on ball carriers, while also interrupting timing of routes by getting hands across receivers who dare cross his face before he gets to his appropriate drop depth. Those same hands are used to high point the ball, and engage with climbing offensive linemen in order to strain, separate, shed, and pursue the ball. With a full head of steam, you will be hard pressed to find another linebacker who hits/wraps/drives with as much authority. Eye discipline is also a part of his game, as we see Hanratty read his keys and get to his run fit, while maintaining his tackling leverage all throughout - including plays to the boundary.

New Jersey Class of 2027 Player Rankings Update

Official New.
