One of my guiltiest pleasures when ranking prospects for Prep Redzone New Jersey is picking-and-choosing to highlight prospects that I thought had outstanding film. As part of our class of 2027 player rankings update, I get to highlight those prospects who put on a show with their highlight reels. Below are a handful of prospects who have film that left an impression on me.

A Trio of Top-Flight Grayhounds Prospects Threaten the Entirety of the WJFL

For Pleasantville, they have a set of triplets that, in my opinion, are clear FCS-caliber of better prospects that not only can play multiple position, but absolutely threaten the power-structure in South Jersey's West Jersey Football League.

Perhaps the most acclaimed prospect out of the trio is [player_tooltip player_id='1655790' first='Semaj' last='Dozier']. A safety on defense, film shows us how Dozier has clear vision to get a running start when breaking on the ball. Because his vision is so clear, he is prone to delivering well-timed body shots that break up pass attempts. Additionally, he does a great job of backpedalling and leveling off when nobody is behind him. Physically, Dozier appears to have long legs and a frame that he can build into - likely without losing a step. Versatile enough to play corner, he is also long and quick enough to play bump and run. Wherever he is lined up on the field, Dozier knows how to use the sideline as a defender. On offense he is a receiver who has the quicks to reverse field and still gain the sideline.

Ranked exactly one slot behind Dozier is teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1657037' first='Takiesse' last='Barnes']. Like Dozier, Barnes is a weaponized at several positions, albeit on the opposite side of the ball. A running back, Barnes runs behind his pads through the trenches. On tape we see very quick and sudden jab steps. This move done at this speed is lethal, as defenders are typically too slow to stop-and-start again. With this quickness comes his speed. We see on multiple occasions that Barnes can separate from the pack. Additionally, Barnes has the ability to jump into the building, high pointing hte ball extremely well and using his hands to do so. On defense we see him play single-high safety, and is disciplined in doing so - reading the opposing quarterback's eyes. Good pursuit angles combined with twitchiness allow Barnes to deliver big hits along the sideline. My final thought on Barnes is this: he is the type of player that any time he touches the ball a big play can happen.

Lost upon some, but not me, is Pleasantville teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1923864' first='Raliel' last='Wiggins']. Appearing tall and lanky on film, he has the size to disrupt and frustrate. An excellent runner who appears somewhat violent on tape, Wiggins is a threat to score from anywhere on the film. In fact, when serving as the Grayhound's punter, Wiggins can take a fake and gain nearly 30 yards a clip. Wiggins is probably the rawest prospect of the trio, but perhaps the most determined when he possesses the ball. He will need some coaching up at the next level to become more refined, but there is no question about it: Wiggins is a natural baller.

Carr Will be the Vehicle to Drive Paulsboro's Offense

A sneaky-good receiver out of South Jersey's Paulsboro is [player_tooltip player_id='1466302' first='Jeremiah' last='Carr']. Carr is an astute player and understands the subtleties of playing receiver. Film shows us that Carr recognizes, and exploits, over-leveraged defenders, while also knowing that once behind them, his route must stack them. Despite a smaller frame, he will high point for the ball over the middle and is willing to take a shot in order to do so; in a similar breath, he will take a shot and stay upright. Carr practices discretion when accelerating to another gear of speed, combining said acceleration with a jab step to throw off defender's pursuit angles. Lastly, Carr tracks the ball over his shoulder well. The Paulsboro product does many things well and is an exciting player to watch.
