The 2026 football season kicks off this week and we're kicking off our coverage with complete and in-depth breakdowns on the state's senior class. This is a class that will go down in the history books as one of the best in state history. We've updated our <a href="https://prepredzone.com/oklahoma/rankings/2027-rankings/">2027 rankings to include the Top 200 prospects in the state</a>. We have a ton of individual breakdowns dropping every day to spotlight some of those special prospects. In this breakdown, we're taking a look at the top newcomers at the linebacker and defensive back positions. The linebacker group is one of the deepest position groups in this class while the DB group is headlined by several elite players at the top. The highest rated newcomer at the linebacker position is Bixby's [player_tooltip player_id='1830996' first='Ben' last='Puckett'] and there was no question that he would be the guy. Puckett was a guy that started later in the year and was in the rotation with a Bixby linebacker group that is routinely one of the best in the state. Puckett also has DNA on his side as his two older brothers were two of the better linebackers in their respective class. This season, Puckett is looking to make a name for himself and have that breakout moment. He has had a spectacular offseason and has a lot of momentum heading into this fall. This summer, he committed to Montana State and is focused on a big senior season.     Mustang cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='1352560' first='Braesyn' last='Williams'] is not only a newcomer to the state's 2027 rankings, he's a newcomer to Oklahoma in general. Williams moved down to Oklahoma from Kansas, where he was a standout at Kansas powerhouse Derby. Our Prep Redzone Kansas writers had a high opinion of Williams and had him rated as one of the top prospects in the state's 2027 class. But there is still so much unknown about Williams from our perspective because we haven't had a chance to really watch him in person. The film is impressive but we're fired up to see how it translates against 6A-1 competition in Oklahoma week in and week out.     Edmond Santa Fe cornerback [player_tooltip player_id='1836729' first='Sean-Cole' last='Keyes'] debuts in the 2027 rankings this week after a spectacular offseason. At this time last year, we didn't know much about Keyes but he was a 2027 prospect that certainly got on our radar this spring. The Edmond Santa Fe product got our attention on the track when he became one of the faster sprinters in the state. He's clocked a time of 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash and was outstanding on the track. He's continuing to improve every day as a lockdown cornerback and D1 colleges started to take notice. The offers started to roll in during the spring and over the summer, he announced his commitment to Missouri State.     We're very high on Newcastle linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1727333' first='Quinn' last='Housley'] and he could end up being a breakout star in 5A football this season. You saw flashes of that last year as he was a big and rangy linebacker that showcased some athleticism plenty of times. Going back and watching him on film and some of the video that we shot, there is a lot here to like about his potential moving forward. He's another prospect in the 2027 class that built up some momentum in the spring and colleges started to take notice. He picked up his first offer in early June and he should get on plenty of school's radars this fall. Newcastle will be playing in a marquee game almost every week.     Sand Springs linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1837047' first='Grady' last='Harris'] was definitely a name that we were going to add to our 2027 rankings this time around. He helped the Sandites capture the 6A-2 state championship a year ago and he's primed for an even bigger senior season. From a prospect perspective, Harris is a player that can do whatever his team needs him to do. He looks like he could be a linebacker at the next level but don't be surprised to see his hand in the dirt (or turf really) on most Friday nights. The Sandites are going to be leaning on his experience this season and there's no doubt that he appears to be ready for the challenge. His production and film should blow up this fall.     Our final 2027 newcomer is Jenks standout [player_tooltip player_id='527949' first='Clark' last='Cariker'] and this is a guy that definitely should've already been on our board for the 2027 class. You talk with the coaches at Jenks and they talk about Cariker as a guy who can do just about anything they ask of him on the football field. He's played several positions and has found a way to make an impact at each. Last season, he finished the year with over 100 tackles and is an incredibly fun player to watch at tracking the football. This offseason, he's another 2027 prospect that has blown up with colleges and has picked up quite a few offers. He'll be one of the more experienced Jenks defenders this season.
