He started at left tackle in one of the state's premier programs at Dowling Catholic since he was a freshman. Barrett is an almost perfect combination of present production with incredible upside. It's why his reported scholarship offer list is a veritable who's who of college football programs. Barrett can basically go wherever he wants. It will be fun watching where that will be in conjunction with seeing what he can pull off on this level for two more seasons. He made significant progress from Year 1 to Year 2 and other step forward this fall can be expected. Starting with an Iowa State scholarship offer last September, the Des Moines Christian offensive lineman has reported opportunities from Iowa, Iowa State, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Auburn, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri and others. Heying anchored a line that led the Lions to 1,622 yards and 23 touchdowns rushing last fall. They picked up 1,308 yards and 10 scores through the air. The junior has shown he can do it all in terms of strength, athleticism and agility on this level already and now will be operating with another offseason of training. Then, the PCM offensive lineman hit the gas last season and his recruitment has taken off. He claims scholarship offers from Iowa State, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota and Kansas State to date, and other really good programs, including Iowa, are showing plenty of interest. His <a href="https://www.hudl.com/video/3/22556767/692b6262ee61bcc452245b85">sophomore highlight video</a> reveals a prospect packed with potential. He's built to bully opponents in the interior of the O-Line but is far from a bruiser alone. Shannon is agile and athletic, capable of easily reaching blocks and punishing defenders in space. The Iowa City West junior pledged to play for his father, University of Iowa offensive line coach George Barnett. He'd also reported opportunities from Miami (OH) and South Dakota. Barnett started at guard as a freshman in 2024 before shifting over to center last season. The transition was seamless, as he excelled with traits that work well in the middle of the O-Line. He's quick and explosive in tight quarters and operates with fast feet. His hands are active and strong. The coach's kid understands leverage and angles. He flashes the upside to believe that much bigger accomplishments were ahead as well. That potential began being realized this summer when Goodrich camped with Iowa State and earned a scholarship. Florida Atlantic, Miami (OH) and South Dakota have followed suit. Others might not be far behind after he hits the field this fall. Goodrich benefits from athleticism and agility. He moves well and flashes sound footwork already. Proper hand placement and a smooth, quick drop make him tough to beat in pass protection.
