KHSAA Week 1 Player Spotlight: North Hardin vs. LCA

<p>Week 1 is upon us, and with that, a slew of matchups we've been waiting all offseason to see. In this case, North Hardin travels to Lexington Christian Academy (LCA) for the nightcap of a doubleheader that follows South Warren vs. Bryan Station. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">North Hardin</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Last season, [player_tooltip player_id='2042968' first='Zayden' last='Winfield'] produced 880 all-purpose yards for North Hardin High School, including 6.1 yards per carry and 10 total touchdowns. In his most recent scrimmage against Nelson County, Winfield broke free for a shifty touchdown along the outside that saw him bop and weave his way through the defense while breaking tackles and maintaining his balance through the end zone for a 70+ yard touchdown run. He ultimately scored two touchdowns last weekend, setting him up for a potential breakout performance in Week 1.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='2123109' first='Chris' last='Lee'] is North Hardin's returning defensive back leader, who snagged three interceptions and logged 17 tackles as a lockdown cornerback/safety. Lee is a hard-hitting, smash-mouth type of DB who has fantastic reaction time and can light up any ball carrier in stride. In North Hardin's two scrimmages this preseason, Lee showcased his ability to jump and cut off routes. He also proved that he can react to the play in front of him, meaning he can shed his block and put himself in a position to make a play. If he's able to gather some speed, he welcomes contact with open arms. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1791548' first='C.J.' last='Rogers'] will probably play behind Winfield this season, but hopes to find some varsity reps early and often after impressing as a freshman in 2025 -- enough so to gain recognition as a top 10-ranked running back in his class. Rogers will give Hardin an extra burst of speed along the outside. Rogers plays tough and has a knack for breaking tackles. He's a natural athlete and has the size to play multiple positions on offense, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's used in a variety of ways on varsity as a sophomore. </p>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lexington Christian Academy</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='951327' first='Nash' last='Whelan'] is the reigning 2A state championship game MVP after leading LCA to a KHSAA title last season. He plays both ways as a quarterback and strong safety. Defensively, he finished his sophomore season with 47 total tackles, 6 TFL, and one forced fumble and interception apiece. On the offensive side, he accounted for over 1,000 rushing yards and 2,500 passing yards to go with 44 total touchdowns. He's also bulked up to 193 pounds for his junior season. All signs point toward Whelan becoming one of the can't-miss players in Kentucky this fall. <br></p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1042321' first='Jeremiah' last='Burbage'] has bulked up to 6'1" and 189 pounds ahead of his junior season. He finished his sophomore season with a whopping 15 pass breakups to go with two forced fumbles and six catches allowed in all of last season. This earned him the reputation of a defensive disruptor and someone every OC has to game plan around. He also plays receiver and finished last season with 13 receptions for 275 yards. Since the end of last season, Burbage has earned three Division I offers: Grambling State, Eastern Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee State. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='1257663' first='Aiden' last='Lyons'] was very active defensively as a junior last season. He returns as the team's leading tackler during the regular season (89 total), including a pair of forced fumbles and recoveries, as well as an interception. His last performance saw him record 11 tackles in LCA's state title win last December. Lyons most recently received an offer from Denison University earlier this month, and looks to add to that list as his senior season kicks off. </p>    <p></p>
