The Wolves went 1-9 and missed the playoffs for the second time in three years. And while they took some positive steps, history repeated itself in 2025. The Wolves faced a tough non-district schedule and started the season 0-3. The schedule didn't get much easier but they were getting more competitive week in and week out. Overall, the Wolves started 0-6 but they would get their first win of the season in week seven, beating Westmoore 41-20. That would be the only win on the year as they lost tough games to Owasso, Yukon and Norman North down the stretch to finish 1-9 and miss the playoffs for the third time in four seasons. But we are not that far removed from Santa Fe making a run to the state championship game. So this is a program that is used to winning and winning at a high level. There's no doubt that this is a down time for the Wolves but things are about to look very different with Santa Fe football moving forward. While it was a somewhat surprising announcement, we found out this May that the Wolves would be moving in a different direction.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Longtime head coach Kyle White announced that he was stepping down as head coach to become the school's athletic director. A few weeks later, the Wolves announced longtime Millwood head coach Darwin Franklin as the next guy to lead the Wolves. He takes over a program that is determined to bounce back in a major way, as soon as this season. But the last two months have been an absolute blur. He took over the Santa Fe program in late May and will be taking the field with his new team for the first game three months after being introduced as head coach. While it's a process taking over a new program, it's a process on hyperdrive. The Wolves will be led on the offensive side of the ball by a strong offensive line. They have quite a few skill players that they are excited to unleash this season but everything will start up front on the line of scrimmage. Defensively, the Wolves will be the opposite of the offense. They have to replace two D1 signees from the defensive line but they have a ton of talent in the secondary that the Santa Fe coaches are excited about. The Wolves are hungry to make it back to the playoffs after the last two seasons. The schedule will be a challenge but that's life in Class 6A-1. Offensively, he gives them a bigger lineman that can help pave the way in the run game. Defensively, the Wolves need new guys to step up. It's not easy replacing multiple D1 signees along the line of scrimmage. Santa Fe is expecting Gee to be a big part of what they do along the line of scrimmage this season. The offensive line was the first group brought up and 2027 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='946186' first='Elijah' last='Tucker'] was the first player. We first watched Tucker in person a few years ago at one of our showcase camps and he was one of the best players from a technical standpoint at the event, despite being surrounded by guys much older than him. Tucker can play any spot on the interior of the offensive line. Last season, Kennedy played a lot of quarterback and it's possible he does the same this fall but he will also be utilized at the receiver position this fall. In addition to his role on offense, he's going to start for the Wolves on defense and can be another versatile threat on that side of the ball. Kennedy was incredibly productive last season and has had a really strong offseason. We didn't know much of anything about Keyes at this time last year but he certainly enjoyed a breakout season and then carried that momentum into the offseason. Keyes is one of the 2027 prospects that has broken out this spring and summer. In June, he announced his commitment to Missouri State. He played plenty on the offensive side of the ball but it's really hard not to look at what he did on defense. He emerged as a really talented cornerback that excelled in one on one situations. The Wolves are excited to use his overall athleticism at various spots in the secondary. And he still has the ability to be a weapon for them on offense. The Wolves will be hungry to turn things around in a series that they've traditionally dominated. They've dropped the last two games and three of the last four. Prior to this stretch, they had an eight-game winning streak against the Huskies. Edmond North is also building off last year.<br><strong>Sept. 4th - AT Edmond Memorial</strong><br>- Edmond Santa Fe follows up one rivalry road game with another in week one as they'll head over to face Edmond Memorial. And just like the Edmond North series, this is one that the Wolves have historically dominated but have struggled recently. The Bulldogs have won the last two and three of the last four in the series.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 11th - Bentonville West, AR.</strong><br>- The non-district slate wraps up with the home opener in week two. Edmond Santa Fe will host Bentonville West out of Arkansas and this will be the first meeting between these two programs. Bentonville West has made it very common to play Oklahoma schools. But this will be Santa Fe's first game against an out-of-state opponent since 2007.<br><strong>Sept. 18th - AT Yukon</strong><br>- Edmond Santa Fe will actually open up district play in week three against Yukon. This will also be the third road game in four weeks for the Wolves. These two teams have been district opponents every year since the Class 6A split. Yukon has gotten the better of Edmond Santa Fe in the last two years. But the Wolves are 9-3 against Yukon since 2014.<br><strong>Sept. 25th - Moore</strong><br>- The Wolves host Moore in week four and the Lions are back on the schedule for the first time since 2019. That meeting was also a playoff match-up. This is the first time they've met in the regular season in over a decade. Both teams are looking to bounce back in a major way this season. This could end up being a playoff elimination game.<br><strong>Oct. 9th - Enid</strong><br>- After a bye week, Santa Fe will host Enid in week six. The Plainsmen were originally going to be in Santa Fe's district this year and next. But they were granted independent play by the OSSAA. So while Enid is technically a district opponent, this game will not count towards the district standings. The Wolves have a six-game winning streak over Enid.<br><strong>Oct. 16th - AT Jenks</strong><br>- Edmond Santa Fe will head east for the first of back to back games in the Tulsa area. They face Jenks in week seven and these two teams have met every year since the split in Class 6A. Whether it's been in non-district play, district play or in the 2020 state championship game. The Wolves have dropped the last three to the Trojans.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 23rd - AT Owasso</strong><br>- After the showdown with Jenks, Edmond Santa Fe heads back over to the Tulsa area in week eight to face Owasso. These two teams have met every year since 2020. The last four meetings have been as district opponents. They've played some very close and entertaining games in the last several years but Santa Fe is still looking for their first win in the series.<br><strong>Oct. 30th - Union</strong><br>- Edmond Santa Fe returns home for the first time in a couple weeks when they host Union in week nine. Similar to the Jenks and Owasso series, these two teams have played some competitive games over the last several years and the Wolves are looking to snap a four-game losing streak to the Redhawks when they take the field this season.&nbsp;<br><strong>Nov. 6th - Deer Creek</strong><br>- The regular season comes to an end with a home game against Deer Creek in week ten. The Antlers are a new district opponent for the Wolves this season. They've only met twice and that came in non-district play in 2016 and 2017. The Wolves won both meetings. This game could be a “win and you're in” game for a playoff spot in this district.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>NOTABLE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Head coach Darwin Franklin comes to Edmond Santa Fe after a very successful stint as Millwood's head coach. Franklin was at Millwood for a dozen seasons and compiled a record of 129-34 during his 12 years. He had the Falcons as a consistent state championship contender. They captured back to back state titles in 2016 and 2017. They would also play for the state championship in three consecutive seasons from 2022-2024. For more than a decade, the Falcons were one of the top teams in their class, year in and year out. Now, he takes over a program like Edmond Santa Fe that is hungry to get back to contending in an absolutely loaded Class 6A-1. Franklin is making the jump from 2A football to 6A football and it will be interesting to see how that transition plays out. But there is no doubt that Franklin will bring a winning mindset to the job.
