Robertson stood out to me right away when I watched Cedar Rapids Washington play host to North Scott at Kingston Stadium. Here's what I wrote about him after the in-person scout...The 10th-grader was eating up double-teams, keeping linebackers and safeties clean to make plays. Robertson showed a mature game, operating with the framework of the defense. He held up well against North Scott's challenging RPO game. Robertson has plenty of room to grow in terms of strength and sharpening his skills, which is exciting for the future and gives him a sizable ceiling...Now, Robertson showed up as the top-ranked defensive lineman in the new Prep Redzone Iowa Class of 2028 update. Iowa State offered him a scholarship this summer. Other big schools are poking around. He's one of the biggest up-arrow prospects in Iowa.

If you're searching for a breakout candidate for the 2026 season, Dostal would make an excellent choice. Only a sophomore, Dostal contributed 21.0 tackles (14 solo) to an unbeaten state championship run for Xavier in 2025. The long-limbed edge defender came up with 6.0 tackles for loss and three sacks as a member of the Saints' D-Line rotation. He also forced a fumble. I liked what I saw from Dostal in scouting the semifinal round against Newton. He understands the importance of setting the edge and playing within the framework of the defense. He uses his hands well and gets burst off of the edge on pass rush plays. Dostal bends well and gets under offensive tackles. More strength will come as he fills out his projectable frame.

A case can be made that Kalainoff broke out as a Nashua-Plainfield sophomore in 2025. He collected 31.0 tackles, 17 of which were solo stops. Kalainoff proved disruptive with 9.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He also forced a pair of fumbles. Kalainoff provides evidence of his success during his 10th-grade highlight video. A handful lining up off of the edge, Kalainoff beats offensive tackles with speed moves before they can lock him up. He's effective standing up or with his hand in the dirt, playing with productive pad level and keeping his eye on the ball. Kalainoff's frame looks like it can comfortably add good weight and strength without the loss of impressive athleticism. Another offseason of training should mean reaching greater heights in '26.

Stuefen checks in as the No. 3 defensive lineman and the 42nd-ranked player overall in Iowa's 2028 Class according to the latest Prep Redzone rankings. He turned heads as a sophomore last fall, registering 21.0 tackles, 11 of which were solo stops. Stuefen produced 5.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. The 10th-grade highlight video lends insight into his talents beyond the statistics. Playing D-End on a three-person front, Stuefen is a high-motor operator. He's in constant motion and does it with efficiency. Stuefen moves well laterally and in a straight line. Active hands help Stuefen fight off blocks or separate from them if he becomes engaged. His frame is such that it can comfortably add good weight without the loss of agility. We should see a jump forward from the Cougar junior this season.

Fleshman is a problem for opponents on the gridiron and the wrestling mat. He won the Class 2A 285-pound state wrestling title as a sophomore this past winter. That impressive achievement came on the heels of a 2025 football campaign that saw him go crazy for 56.0 tackles (35 solo) with 26.5 stops for loss, eight sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception. His 10th-grade highlight video reveals a defender that understands pad level and being the low man. There's a strong base, power up top and active hands. His feet are fast, and he operates with balance. Fleshman does well in setting the edge and attacking within the defensive scheme. His skills would play up inside if physical development clears a path to lining up there.
