Dostal is a master of disruption. I noticed it when scouting him during last year’s state championships at the UNI-Dome. The then sophomore was helping the Saints complete an unbeaten campaign with the Class 4A title. He finished the year with 14 solo tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, three sacks and a forced fumble. I noticed the ability to wreak havoc again when watching him compete in person at Clear Creek Amana earlier this season. Dostal has been a key component to Xavier running its win streak to 20 games. Entering Week 8, the 11th-grader had piled up 18 solo tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks and two fumble recoveries, one of which was returned for a touchdown. Dostal is a long-limbed, athletic player coming off of the edge. His projectable frame gives him upside there. A move to outside linebacker in a 3-4 also is a possibility.

If you’re searching for a breakout candidate for the 2026 season, Dostal would make an excellent choice. Only a sophomore, Dostal contributed 21.0 tackles (14 solo) to an unbeaten state championship run for Xavier in 2025. The long-limbed edge defender came up with 6.0 tackles for loss and three sacks as a member of the Saints’ D-Line rotation. He also forced a fumble. I liked what I saw from Dostal in scouting the semifinal round against Newton. He understands the importance of setting the edge and playing within the framework of the defense. He uses his hands well and gets burst off of the edge on pass rush plays. Dostal bends well and gets under offensive tackles. More strength will come as he fills out his projectable frame.

Only a sophomore, Dostal entered the Class 4A state title game with 12 solo tackles, 4.0 stops for loss and a pair of sacks. He also forced a fumble. I liked what I saw from Dostal during the semifinal round against Newton, and he looked the part again in the championship versus Pella. While he’s not yet piling up statistics, he understands the important of setting the edge and playing within the framework of the defense.
