This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! Needless to say, the target was bigger than ever before but the expectations remained the same to contend for the state championship. They opened up the season with a 29-point win over Community Christian in week zero. They went on the road to face a very hungry Sulphur team in week one. They came up short, losing 28-19 and their winning streak came to a halt at 45 games. But they wouldn't lose again in the regular season. The Warriors bounced back immediately and were absolutely dominant for the majority of the regular season. They did have a showdown with Marlow in week seven that came down to the final quarter. Ultimately, they prevailed 21-14 and that put Washington in the driver's seat for the district championship. They would go on to lock up the district title, finishing the regular season with a 9-1 record. Their dominant play only continued from there, beating Chisholm and Kiefer with ease in the first two rounds. They squared off with Oklahoma Christian School in the semifinals and won by 21 points. That would send the three-time defending champs back to Edmond, where they have gotten very used to ending their seasons at UCO. It was the sixth straight trip to the state title game and they would face undefeated Jones with a fourth straight gold ball on the line. The Longhorns were a hungry contender and they took down the Warriors, winning 20-14. Washington's season came to an end at 12-2. It ended in their sixth straight state title game appearance, where their record during that stretch is now 3-3.

2026 OUTLOOK

For the first time in several years, the Washington Warriors enter a new season as the hunter instead of the hunted. After coming up short in the state title game a year ago, Washington will enter the 2026 season hungry to make it back on top of the 2A-1 mountain. It's a mountain that looks very different from last year with defending champion Jones and several other contenders moving up to 3A. But the biggest headline is three-time defending 3A champion Lincoln Christian is a new member of this class and the Warriors could run into them down the line. Seven starters come back on the offensive side of the ball for a unit that averaged just shy of 40 points per game last season. The offense will be headlined this season by a third-year starter at quarterback, one of the more dynamic running backs in 2A-1 and several skill players making their return. But the Warriors will need new guys to step up along the offensive line as they lost a few starters to graduation up front. Six starters return on the defensive side of the ball and the front seven will be the strength of that side of the ball. This was a defense that was absolutely dominant in so many games last season. If the new starters blend together well with their returning guys, the defense could end up being just as good in 2026. Washington enters this season as one of the top teams in Class 2A-1 and the expectation is once again to contend for the state championship. The early non-district slate will feature tough games against strong 3A competition. That should prepare them for the rest of the season. They'll be heavy favorites in their district but that's not a new position for the Warriors after being a dominant force in district play for the majority of the last decade. But at a program like Washington, the standard has become much greater than district championships. They'll be hunting for the state championship.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Dawson Thomas - Defensive Back
Kingston Stringer - Offensive Lineman
Lane Taylor - Defensive Lineman (2025 All State Honorable Mention)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

2027 tight end and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='473879' first='Case' last='Alexander'] is going into his fourth year as a starter for the Warriors this season. He's already established himself as one of the top overall prospects in the state's 2027 class. He's one of the best football players in the state as well. Alexander has been a dude since his freshman season. As a sophomore, he earned All State 2nd Team honors and then he backed that up by earning 1st Team honors last year as a junior. Now, Alexander is getting ready for his senior season and he's clearly one of the best players in the state and right there at the top of the list for 2A-1 football. He'll be hungry to close out his career on top in 2026.

(2025 All State 1st Team Selection)

2028 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='473891' first='Creed' last='Barrett'] was our PRZ-Oklahoma Freshman Of The Year in 2024 and he backed that up with a solid sophomore season in 2025. Now, Barrett is looking to elevate his game again this season and firmly establish himself as one of the best overall quarterbacks in the state, regardless of class. Barrett has the pieces to have a very successful junior season at the skill positions. There is a lot of production returning around him and if the offensive line comes together quickly, Barrett could lead the Washington offense to new heights this season. We've seen a few elite quarterbacks make noticeable jumps during their junior year and Barrett hopes to be the next one.

(2025 All State Honorable Mention)

2027 tight end and defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='1836840' first='Hunter' last='Sanders'] is a player that we're very excited to watch this season. With Alexander on one side (on both sides of the ball) and Sanders on the other, that is going to put so much stress on opponents, every single week. And with teams trying to find a way to limit the impact Alexander has on the game, that's going to open things up for Sanders to have a major breakout season in our opinion. We saw flashes of that during the spring when we caught the Warriors in person. Sanders has the potential to be a nightmare coming off the edge for Washington's defense and an impact piece on the offensive side of the ball.

All signs are pointing to 2028 running back [player_tooltip player_id='474035' first='Josiah' last='Dickerson'] having a monster junior season this fall. Two things stand out to us about Dickerson that make us think he could be flirting with the 2,000-yard mark. First off, he split carries with a senior running back last season and now, the backfield is all his. And the scary thing for Washington's opponents is the fact that Dickerson wasn't even healthy last season. He hurt his knee in the preseason and was not 100% at any point during the year and still torched opponents week after week. If he's healthy this fall, with an expanded workload, Dickerson has the potential to being one of the top running backs in the state.

(2025 All State Honorable Mention)

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Dom Polumbo - 2029 Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1838910' first='Henry' last='Mann'] - 2028 Athlete
Jackson Mays - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1830570' first='Kade' last='Babcock'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
Sammy Salcedo - 2030 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - AT Perkins-Tryon
- Washington is going to kick off the season against a new opponent in 2026. The Warriors will head up to Perkins to face Perkins-Tryon in a match-up of state title contenders. The Demons have been knocking on the door of contending in Class 3A. This match-up will give us great insight on both teams heading into the season.
Sept. 4th - AT Sulphur
- Here's a game that Washington will have circled on their calendar heading into the year. They travel to Sulphur in week one and the Bulldogs are the team that snapped Washington's 45-game winning streak last year. It also snapped their five-game winning streak against the Bulldogs. This has been a very fun non-district series.
Sept. 11th - Purcell
- The non-district slate will wrap up in week two with another clash with Purcell. These two teams have met every year since 2008 and the majority of these match-ups have taken place in non-district play. The Warriors have dominated the series. They have won the last dozen meetings, including last year's 42-25 win.
Sept. 25th - AT Little Axe
- Washington kicks off their district schedule on the road with a week four game against Little Axe. These two teams have been district opponents in each of the last four years and Washington has not been threatened. They've shut Little Axe out three out of the last four meetings, including last year's 55-0 victory.
Oct. 2nd - Dickson
- The Warriors will return home to host Dickson in week five and this is another familiar district opponent and the series has been completely one-sided. Washington and Dickson began meeting in district play in 2024. The Warriors have won each meeting, scoring 50+ points in each game and only giving up a total of six points.
Oct. 9th - AT Casady
- The second half of the regular season begins with a road trip to Oklahoma City to face Casady. The Cyclones officially joined the OSSAA a few years ago and spent their first few seasons in Class 2A-2. Now, they are in 2A-1 and will be a new opponent for the Warriors. They will also have a first year head coach this season.
Oct. 15th - Anadarko
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Washington returns home to host Anadarko. Like the Casady match-up the week before, this is another new district opponent for the Warriors. And like Casady, Anadarko is also a newcomer to Class 2A-1 this season. The Warriors are moving down from Class 3A and look like a team to watch in 2026.
Oct. 23rd - Crossings Christian
- Washington hosts Crossings Christian in week eight and the Warriors will be looking for another emphatic win over Crossings. These two teams have been district opponents ever since 2024 and the Warriors have won each of the last two meetings. They shut out the Knights 49-0 last season and doubled them up in 2024.
Oct. 30th - AT Lindsay
- In week nine, Washington will go on the road to square off with Lindsay. This will be the fifth straight year these two teams meet in district play. It's another series that has been completely dominated by the Warriors. Washington won 41-6 over the Leopards last year and it was their seventh consecutive win in the series.
Nov. 6th - Chandler
- The regular season comes to a close in week ten as the Warriors will host Chandler. This is another new opponent for Washington and it's a team that has had some success over the last five years. Washington might still have work to do to lock up another district championship in week ten and it won't come easy here.

NOTABLE

Washington had a couple streaks that came to an end in 2025. They had their 45-game winning streak snapped in an early season loss to Sulphur. At the time, it was the third longest winning streak in 11-man history. Their run of consecutive state championships came to an end with three straight titles. But they also extended a couple streaks as well. First off, they played for the state championship for the sixth consecutive year. But before that, they punched their ticket to the playoffs for the 35th consecutive season. They are in a tie with Tuttle for the fourth longest streak in state history. Only Cascia Hall (39) Jenks (37) and Union (36) have longer playoff streaks. Washington has a chance to extend both their playoff streak and state championship game streak this season. The Warriors have become one of the premier small school programs in the state. With Lincoln Christian dropping down to 2A-1, these two powerhouses could be on a crash course for one another in 2026. .

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2025 - 12-2 - Class 2A-1 Runner Ups
2024 - 14-0 - Class 2A-1 State Champions
2023 - 15-0 - Class 2A State Champions
2022 - 15-0 - Class 2A State Champions
2021 - 14-1 - Class 2A Runner Ups

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

4 State Championships

2024 - Beat Millwood 7-6
2023 - Beat Millwood 41-24
2022 - Beat Millwood 17-14
1996 - Beat Turpin 35-14
