Star Studded Sophomores: 2029s best varsity returners

Rounding out my coverage of standout sophomores. These 29's have already made a huge impact on their varsity football programs and are looking to capitalize on all the offseason work they've put in to add to their legacies.    Merrick is as versatile of a high school football players as I've ever seen. From sacking quarterbacks to catching screen passes and laying blocks, Brock is an unstoppable force.   -Athleticism: With a low center of gravity he has very good bend at the DT position, very good agility for his size as he is able to get his feet where they need to be to sidestep tackles, sneaky straight-line speed at 265 pounds with the ability to outrun other athletes his size.   -Versatility: Plays multiple different positions including; DE, DT & FB, nearly 700 scrimmage yards in his freshman season, 36 tackles on the defensive side, soft reliable hands mainly in the screen game.   -Strength & Motor: Very good weight room numbers for a prospect his age and size, relentless pursuit defensively, drags multiple defenders as a ball carrier.     Champ is a player I've had the pleasure of coaching in 7v7. He is a natural born leader at the QB position with a skillset that coaches at the next level are looking for!   -Arm Strength: Cannon of an arm that can make the big boy throws like fades, deep outs and high corners, doesn't take much for his passes to make it on target to his receivers, multiple 25+ yard passes downfield, flat footed with immense pressure in his face.   -Toughness (Mental & Physical): Took many pressure hits and big hits in the backfield while delivering ball downfield and popped right up after every hit, will put his head down and fight for extra yardage as ball carrier.   -High IQ: Understands defensive shell coverages pre snap, quick trigger against blitzers and free rushers, excelled with different route combinations and man and zone beaters.     Bryce is a prospect who seems to be developed well beyond his years. With multiple offers and big time camp invites already, Jackson will be a household name across the Midwest this season!   -Great Mechanics: Very fluid movements within the pocket, great use of his lower body and rotating hips to generate power from the ground up, quick snappy throwing motion with no hitch, great follow through on throwing motion.   -Elite Arm Talent: Impeccable accuracy and ball placement-up field shoulder on go routes, ball to the sideline on corners and comebacks-arm strength to make downfield throws 40+ yards   -Overall Playmaking Ability: Success running the offense from under center as well as shotgun, can escape pocket under pressure and create with his legs, can extend plays with his legs to create play downfield.     Judah is apart of the West Michigan Drive 7v7 family so I am very familiar with his game. Britton reminds me of the old school X receiver that you line up on the backside by himself and let him work!   -Reliable Hands: Right now I would consider Judah as a possession receiver, he has mastered the art of the body catch which is a very underrated important skill as a receiver, improved catching so far this summer, is turning into a legit jump ball threat.   -Improved Route Running Ability: Has shown expansion in his route tree, much better separation on downfield routes, good long strides in his drive phase to really threaten DBs over top of him, good job attacking different CB leverages off the LOS.   -Physicality: Great size for a receiver prospect at 6'2 185 pounds, does not shy away from defensive contact or allow himself to get rerouted during route, great job hand fighting downfield with pressed DBs.     Ethan has had a really busy off season attending many different camps, workouts and showcases. I've seen steady improvement from the beginning of the summer to where we're at now.   -Dual Threat Ability: Can easily create with his legs or his arm, good ball carrier vision when he pulls to run, over 800 rushing yards and 1100 passing yards last season in limited playing time.   -Good Overall IQ: Does a good job of running his offense whether it's in shotgun or under center, great decision maker when it comes to reading defenders to hand ball off or pull it, good decision maker off reads.     Vincent has made his rounds this off season with some really good performances. He is another player who split time as the varsity QB last year. This year his poised to lead his program to the next level   -Elite Accuracy: Very good ball placement, with a feathery light touch on his go/deep balls, makes layered throws into different windows, does a good job of leading his receivers away from defenders with his throws.   -Mechanically Sound: Very quick throwing motion with little to no wasted movement, good footwork to always get his base set to throw.   -Good Mobility & Pocket Presence: Good movement within the pocket to avoid sacks, scrambles with eyes on receivers to make plays, agile enough to gain yardage with his legs downfield.
