Louisiana 2029 initial rankings countdown: Top 10

Prep Redzone Louisiana continued its latest rankings update this past week with its first list for the 2029 class — released Wednesday — ahead of the group's upcoming sophomore year.   As part of the update release, we will look at the top 50 prospects in more detail, including some already-familiar faces and names even so early in the development of the cohort.   Here's a look at the top 10.   No. 10 — [player_tooltip player_id='2243895' first='Peyton' last='Crutchfield'] — 6-2, 275 DL — Alexandria   Alexandria is amid its most successful run in program history with likely its most talented class — in terms of college signees — set to graduate this year, and the Trojans don't appear to be going away anytime soon. The big defensive tackle got on the field some this fall as a freshman and enjoyed some standout moments in the spring on which he proved difficult to block — even by double-team — as he shed his way free to make plays near the line.   No. 9 — [player_tooltip player_id='1474357' first='Shaun' last='Phillips'] — 6-5, 285 OL/DL — Dunham   One of the more versatile trench athletes in the class, Phillips' tall, long frame and athleticism have enabled him to show some promising flashes at offensive tackle, inside on defense, off the edge and on the basketball court before being sidelined by injury during the winter and spring. He moved to Baton Rouge this summer where he adds another notable prospect to the Dunham roster, and he looked at LSU camp in June as though he was getting back to his pre-injury self.   No. 8 — [player_tooltip player_id='2230597' first='Brenin' last='Reed'] – 6-0, 185 WR — Edna Karr   "Bee" was the first prospect in the class to report an offer when Sacramento State made a move nearly a year and a half ago. And with a few more opportunities to see him, it's not difficult to see why. Reed is a dynamic weapon with the explosiveness and speed to get open all over the field, but who has been particularly eye-catching with the ball in the air where his leap, body control and strong hands help him consistently turn tighter coverage into highlight-reel catches.   No. 7 — [player_tooltip player_id='1692307' first='Zyier' last='Stokes'] — 5-10, 160 DB/WR — Westgate   The 2028 class has dominated the headlines of the Tigers' well-documented run of young talent coming through the program. But the classes before and after have their standouts as well, and Stokes has already emerged as one of Louisiana's top prospects in 2029. "GG" is quick, explosive, instinctive and confident with great ball skills and rose to some of the biggest occasions and highest-profile matchups this fall.   No. 6 — [player_tooltip player_id='2243890' first='Baylon' last='Jackson'] — 6-4, 190 WR — Archbishop Shaw   The nephew of former Helen Cox, Georgetown and NBA star Greg Monroe is a talented athlete on both the football field and the basketball court and, though still raw, one of the most promising prospects in the class. Jackson is a big target with a good release and has shown in his early reps the ability to attack every level of the field in a big way, including enough speed to take quick screens to the house.   No. 5 — [player_tooltip player_id='2243886' first='Jack' last='Stokes'] — 6-3, 235 EDGE — Catholic-Baton Rouge   The Bears' multisport, wunderkind standout not only managed the rare feat of breaking into the Catholic lineup this fall as a freshman, but backed up that opportunity with as strong a highlight reel as anyone in the class. Stokes is a big, explosive athlete both with his burst out of his stance and his strength and tenacity battling through blocks, and he plays with good balance and a mix of moves to be able to beat his man and disrupt opposing offenses behind the line.   No. 4 — [player_tooltip player_id='2243883' first='Jaden' last='Turner'] — 6-0, 165 — DB/ATH — John Curtis   The younger brother of third-year LSU cornerback Michael Turner Jr. is the top prospect outside of the trenches in the initial rankings for the class. Like Mike, Jaden is an explosive and versatile athlete with good ball skills who looks to be among one of the most promising young defensive back prospects in the state. He's also expected to see opportunities this fall on offense where he can be a game-changing threat any time the ball gets in his hands.   No. 3 — [player_tooltip player_id='2243881' first='Lance' last='Felix'] — 6-6, 255 OL — Edna Karr   The Cougars have some big shoes to replace along their offensive line, but also some good veterans back in the fold this fall. But the youngster was manning the left tackle spot during a spring visit and, even before finishing his freshman year, already standing out with his tall, long frame and athleticism at the position.   No. 2 — [player_tooltip player_id='2243882' first='Edward' last='Dailey'] — 6-3, 290 DL — Edna Karr   Heading into his sophomore year with a nickname like "Hulk" and his levels of high early praise at a program like Edna Karr says quite a bit in its own right. Dailey is thickly built, explosive athlete who possesses some positional versatility along the defensive front and has the chance to join an impressive lineage among the Cougars' top defensive linemen and overall prospects to come through Algiers.   No. 1 — [player_tooltip player_id='1471211' first='Blair' last='Lewis'] — 6-5, 280 OL/DL — Jeanerette   There will be some fierce competition atop these class rankings for the next three years, but "Big Red" is solid an early candidate and face of the class as anyone thus far with his decorated freshman performance for his Tigers this fall, a strong early offer list that includes LSU and USC and his longterm potential. Lewis is a big, powerful athlete who moves well and with good balance to be utilized in some different ways and make him all the more impactful.
