From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! They came into the 2025 season with high expectations but Hominy is a proud community that supports their football program. The Bucks faced a very competitive non-district schedule and stumbled twice out of the gate, with back to back losses to Pawhuska and Pawnee. They went into district play at 1-2 but they wouldn't lose again in the regular season. Hominy was hands down the top team in the district, beating defending state champion Woodland in a runaway victory in week six. They also beat Fairland by 16 points the following week. That put them in a position to capture the district championship. Hominy finished the regular season with an 8-2 record and the district title. The Bucks hit another gear once they entered the playoffs. They beat Regent Prep by 30+ points in the first round, followed by an emphatic 38-20 win over Thomas in the quarterfinals. They beat Allen by 20+ points in the semifinals to punch their ticket back to the state championship game. The Bucks were hungry for their first state title in a decade but they ended up settling for silver. They faced top-ranked Talihina in the state title game. Despite falling down in an early hole, the Bucks never went away. They rallied in the second half and had a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter but the rally came up just short, falling 26-20. Overall, the season ended with an 11-3 record and a state title game appearance. We have no doubt that this will only fuel Hominy moving forward.

2026 OUTLOOK

It's a new season but the expectations are going to remain the same for Hominy going into 2026. But things are going to look very different this fall. The Bucks lost half of their starters to graduation and not only did half of their starters graduate, but we're talking about guys that started two or three seasons so this year's Hominy team will be young but there's still some talent to look out for in 2026. Five starters are back on the offensive side of the ball. The Bucks will be moving guys around, specifically in the backfield with a new quarterback and running back but guys that are used to making plays on offense. If they can come together with some new faces on the line of scrimmage, the Bucks are not lacking talent in the skill department. This was a team that averaged 36 points per game last season and have the potential to average over 30 points per game again this season, it will just be with some new names running the show. Defensively, the Bucks bring back six starters from last year's team and that could end up being the strength of this team as those new names get used to the spotlight on offense. The defense does have to replace some key production from last year but just like with the offense, we believe that the Bucks will be just fine on this side of the ball. Now, this squad is going to get thrown into the fire a little bit with a tough non-district schedule. But Hominy is used to testing themselves in the non-district slate. That should get them ready for what could be the toughest district in Class A-2. They have a three-week stretch in October that could make or break them as they look for another district championship to set themselves up for a deep run in the playoffs.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Blaine Hipp - Quarterback/Linebacker (2025 All State 1st Team Selection)
JR Lookout - Offensive/Defensive Lineman (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Randee Goodeagle - Running Back (2025 All State Honorable Mention)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Despite playing on a team that felt pretty senior-heavy at times, 2029 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='2245851' first='Isaiah' last='Hughes'] found his way on the field despite being a freshman. He had a touchdown catch in the state championship game and Hominy's coaches are very excited about his potential as we look ahead to the 2026 season. Hughes is going to be a player that the Bucks can move around at different positions. But look for him to have his biggest impact at running back and wide receiver. Hughes was playing really good football for the Bucks down the stretch last season and if he carries that momentum into 2026, this could end up being a breakout season for the sophomore.

Hominy just had a pretty special senior class that came through and graduated. But one of the senior leaders on this year's team will be [player_tooltip player_id='2245852' first='Josh' last='Toon'] on the offensive and defensive line. Toon will help set the tone for the Bucks on both sides of the line of scrimmage. They need some new names to step up and Hominy's coaches are confident that Toon is going to be a guy for them this season. There is certainly some potential there. He played alongside some very talented guys over the last few seasons and if he and the rest of the Hominy OL can come together, this offense will be solid again.

Hominy just had a pretty special senior class that came through and graduated. And with the Bucks needing a new quarterback, they are doing what they've done so successfully over the last decade. They're moving a wide receiver over to quarterback. They just did it with Blaine Hipp and now Wheeler looks like he'll be the next guy at QB1. And when we look at the Bucks on paper, it makes sense what they're doing. Wheeler and Hughes are two of their more dynamic players returning. So Hominy is putting them in positions where they will have the ball as much as possible. They still have to go out and do it on the field but there's a lot of potential there for success.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

Aiden Pham - 2029 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Cosheshe Mashunkashey - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1832628' first='Keegan' last='Brown'] - 2029 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
LJ Johnson - 2028 Fullback/Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1833203' first='Tyce' last='Miller'] - 2028 Athlete

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 27th - Cleveland
- Hominy opens the season once again with their annual rivalry clash against Cleveland. This time, it takes place in week zero as the Bucks will open up the season in front of the home fans. Hominy took care of business against the Tigers last year, winning 41-16. This has been a series that the Bucks have owned recently, winning five straight.
Sept. 11th - AT Pawhuska
- After one rivalry game in week zero, Hominy has another one in week two as they travel to Pawhuska to face the Huskies. This series has been completely back and forth over the last couple decades. Pawhuska has had the edge recently, winning the last two, including last year's 42-27 victory. The Huskies will have a new head coach this fall.
Sept. 18th - Pawnee
- Hominy will wrap up non-district play with a week three game at home against Pawnee. This is a tough two-game stretch (with Pawhuska) that tripped up the Bucks last season. The Bucks fell to the Black Bears 38-34 last season and that snapped a three-game winning streak that Hominy had in the series with Pawnee.
Sept. 25th - AT Quapaw
- The Bucks will kick off district play with a new opponent as they will travel to Quapaw in week four. This is the first year of a new district rotation and the Bucks have only faced Quapaw once in recent memory. That came in the 2022 playoffs when the Bucks prevailed 56-6. Hominy will be hungry for a win before a huge test comes in week five.
Oct. 2nd - Ketchum
- Hominy returns home to face Ketchum in week six and this kicks off a three-week stretch of games that could very well make or break Hominy's season. Ketchum has basically everyone coming back and looks like a team to take very seriously in 2026. These two have played in each of the last two years with Hominy winning both by 20 points or more.
Oct. 9th - AT Woodland
- Hominy kicks off the second half of the regular season with a road game against Woodland. Since the split in Class A, this has become a marquee district rivalry game and this year will be no different. Woodland won in 2024 before winning a state title while Hominy won last year before playing for the state championship.
Oct. 15th - Fairland
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Hominy will host Fairland in week seven. These two teams have met each of the last two seasons in district play. Coincidentally, both times have been on Fall Break as well. The Bucks have won both meetings by 16 points or more. Fairland is coming off a breakout season where they made it to the semifinals.
Oct. 23rd - AT Oklahoma Union
- After Hominy's toughest stretch of games, the Bucks will go back on the road to face Oklahoma Union in week eight. This game is back on Hominy's schedule after not playing the last two seasons. They were district opponents in 2022 and 2023 and the Bucks dominated each meeting. They won each game by an average of 40+ points.
Oct. 30th - Barnsdall
- The Bucks return home in week nine to face nearby Barnsdall. The Bucks have faced this squad in each of the last two years since they became district opponents in 2024. Hominy has won both meetings by 20+ points. They won 38-14 last season and have only lost to Barnsdall once in the last two decades.
Nov. 6th - Afton
- The regular season comes to an end in week ten with a home game against Afton. These two have been district opponents since the split in Class A and the Bucks have taken care of business in each of the last two years. They won 42-8 in 2024 and then 34-8 last season. They'll look for another win here to take momentum into the playoffs.

NOTABLE

There is no debate that Hominy has been one of the most consistent small school programs in the state of Oklahoma. That consistency of winning football has lasted decades and shows no signs of slowing down. In 2025, the Bucks not only made it to the state championship game, but they punched their ticket to the playoffs for the 28th consecutive season. There are only a handful of schools, regardless of class that have longer active playoff streaks in Oklahoma. And when Class A split into two divisions a few years ago, Hominy was one of the teams that was immediately highlighted as a program that would be a consistent state championship contender year in and year out. They played for the state championship last season and went 13-1 in back to back seasons a few years ago, but it's been ten years since the Bucks last raised the gold ball, when they captured the 2016 state championship. If you've been to a game in Hominy, you know that's a community that loves their football program. They are used to seeing winning football and the Bucks are hungry to bring another state championship to this northern Oklahoma powerhouse.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2025 - 11-3 - Class A-2 Runner Ups
2024 - 9-3 - Lost In Class A-2 Quarterfinals
2023 - 13-1 - Lost In Class A Semifinals
2022 - 13-1 - Lost In Class A Semifinals
2021 - 7-4 - Lost In Class A 1st Round

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

5 State Championships

2016 - Beat Wynnewood 42-14
2001 - Beat Velma-Alma 3-0
1983 - Beat Hollis 16-12
1982 - Beat Cyril 39-0
1973 - Beat Wynnewood 21-0
