The first camp of the summer had me headed just beyond the WI/MN border to Winona State University. Alongside me were athletes from MN, WI, IL, and even a couple from Colorado all looking to show off what they could do on the football field. This day was primarily reserved for the skill position athletes: QBs, RBs, WR/TEs, DBs, and LBs. It was a competitive day from the combine to the 1 on 1 padded battles, and when the dust cleared it was tough to pick my personal MVPs from the afternoon. After some deliberation, checking notes, and reviewing combine testing results I have made my selections. Today we go through those MVPs and why they were my selection.

Camp season is my favorite time of the year because I get to get out and see not only WI athletes, but stars of other states as well. Mankato West is home to an impressive QB in [player_tooltip player_id='1217899' first='Osborne' last='Lorenz']. The dual threat QB checked a lot of boxes throughout the day. Starting with his combine and check-in. The '27 QB measured in at 6'4" 210 lbs, ran a 4.79 40, 4.69 shuttle, jumped 9' in the broad, and ran a pair of 7.53 L-Drills. No question the big man can move within and outside of the pocket and do serious damage when he breaks the line of scrimmage.

When the pads went on and the footballs came out it was even more impressive watching the prototypical QB. Osborne is blessed with an arm that has the strength to match his large frame. The ball jumps out of his hand on every throw. The vast majority of the field is open to Osborne to attack when he drops back to throw because of his arm strength. His natural athleticism also gives him the ability to be very fluid through his footwork and throwing mechanics. It was also great to see as the day went on Osborne was able to get more and more accurate. From what I was able to see I'm not sure there are many throws that Lorenz can't make. It is easy to see why he holds a Top 10 ranking at the position over in MN.

We have only had Hunter on our radars since the start of the 2025 season. He is only a freshman, but every time I cross paths with him I come away so impressed by where he is at in his development. The freshman RB started his day with a 5'11" 180 lbs weigh-in, 4.81 40, 4.53 shuttle, 8'11" broad, and a 7.60 L-Drill. A great base of athleticism to continue to build and develop his game around.

On the field in 1 on 1 battles is where the 2029 RB solidified his MVP for me. First off, he took to the coaching so well and implemented what he was taught instantly. Hunter did really well with his route running. Wheels, arrows, and getting out into the flats from the backfield all were routes he was able to get open on. His body control to be able to get in and out of breaks and force LBs to bite on fakes opened up separation. Not that he needed much because the 2029 RB was fantastic making some very difficult catches through contact. It was catches at every level of the field too. This is going to be an RB to keep a close eye on over the coming years.

Ryan has consistently been one of the most productively dominant WR in the state of IL over the past two seasons. He brought that production and talent up to Winona State and put together a great day. A day that ended with him earning himself an offer from the Warriors. Ryan checked in at 5'10" 187 lbs, ran a 4.67 40, 4.5 shuttle, 8'9" broad jump, and a 7.56 L-Drill.

The numbers were solid, but it was the way he performed in 1 on 1 battles that locked it up for Ryan. It is one thing to be able to create separation with sudden route running. Ryan does that and more. It isn't just getting in and out of breaks quick. With Ryan you see the explosive agility. He has noticeable power in his acceleration out of breaks that instantly gets him free of DBs. He also flashed the speed to win vertically and Ryan was outstanding at tracking the ball and being able to contort his body to secure catches. It was a well deserved offer for the Johnsburg standout.

Parker put together a really solid day at the WSU Prospects Camp. He sure looks the part checking in at just under 6'5" and 214 lbs. The big man also has just shy of a 6'6" wingspan, giving QBs a very large catch radius to target. Parker finished the combine with a 5.08 40, 4.70 shuttle, 8'9.5" broad, and a 7.50 L-Drill.

What mattered most was how he looked when the pads came on. Parker is a legitimate mismatch at TE. He did really well using a combo of his size and his strength to be muscle past LBs to get in position to box out for the football. Parker also put together several reps where he was able to win vertically up the seam. Those reps he showed off enough speed to beat LBs and the ball skills to be able to reel in passes away from his body and secure them through contact. Parker brings a big frame, strong hands, and smooth athleticism for the position to the field. He holds multiple D3 offers already and we are just starting the summer.

What a day for the Waukesha West 2027 DB/LB. In 2025 we saw Finn play OLB for West and pile up 63 tackles. That is very impressive for an athlete who checked in at 5'10" 170 lbs. Finn is a fearless defender who flies around with his hair on fire. Not only does Finn have the physicality for the field, he has the athletic tools to play out at DB. Finn finished the combine with a 4.69 40, 4.55 shuttle, 9'11" broad jump, and a 7.50 L-Drill.

Then when the pads went on we saw the physicality and athleticism come together. In particular there was a 1 on 1 rep where Finn was able to jam the receiver at the line and the kid never left the line of scrimmage before Finn would pick off the pass. Aiding that physical presence was the reactive athleticism to be able to play a lot of tight coverage as the afternoon went on. Finn was a natural in coverage. I'm very excited for his future and to see what he does in his senior season. Get this kid on your radars. Great start to the summer for Finn.

Another MN resident who earned an MVP honor was Champlin Park's [player_tooltip player_id='2126711' first='Logan' last='Leonhardt']. The 2027 LB came in at 5'11" 201 lbs, ran a 4.79 40, 4.50 shuttle, 9'5" broad jump, and a 7.31 L-Drill. The numbers don't like with Logan. The 2027 LB is very athletic for the LB position. He is so agile and able to accelerate so quickly.

On the field is where he secured this spot. That is where he verified that the tools translate to the field. We really got to see the burst to close on the ball as he could arrive just in time to break up the catch and punch the ball away. Logan did really well reacting to route breaks and being able to stay in the TE or RBs hip on deeper routes. He may be undersized for an LB, but the kid shined in coverage. Don't miss out on this kid.
