On Saturday, May 16 I was graciously invited back for (at least) the fourth year in a row by Coach Nick Pennisi, as he hosted his annual PSR Big Showcase. As usual, Pennisi's event has become the premier privately ran camp in the state. My reasoning and justification for this is simple: PSR Big Camps offers maximum exposure for prospects by offering staggered, sequential competition opportunities for aspiring athletes in front of the largest crowd of college coaches, Mega Camps withstanding.

Due to an unfortunately scheduling conflict because of a date change, I regrettably missed the vast majority of the quarterback, receiver, and defensive back session. As such, I only have limited notes on those position groups. However, I was present for the duration of the lineman and running back vs. linebacker segment of the event.

Below are my notes from this event, for the position groups referenced in the subject line.

Be sure to follow me on Twitter for the latest New Jersey high school football prospect news and not miss a beat!

The more I cover football across the state, the more I realize that there is no coincidence between top high school programs and a pipeline to their youth teams. After [player_tooltip player_id='1882875' first='Ryder' last='Izzo'] graduates this year, Rumson-Fair Haven might already have their next tailback in the wings waiting in [player_tooltip player_id='1366223' first='Brady' last='DeBellis']. DeBellis had both shifty his and feet albeit sans dramatic movement. Additionally, DeBellis will bend, sink, and get lower to create separation when running routes.

For Georandy Johnson to crack the varsity lineup this fall for Neptune, he will have to lower his pad level. I thought that Johnson was an upright runner. This can be problematic for him in the future should the tendency continue. First, he will have a harder time cutting off of lineman and have less balance. Additionally, at just 144lbs, I cannot imagine it will take much to tackle him - that is unless he is fast as lightning.

One running back prospect who attended was Tony Wright, a Woodbridge alumnus and current portal prospect by way of JUCO. The 5'10" 165lb running back, in my opinion, moved very deliberately and did not look all that fluid when running the rock.

In a similar sense, the running back who participated and wore #66 was inefficient with his movements. Unfortunately, #66 was not listed as a running back on the roster that I received.

PSR Big Camp Series Coverage

Quarterback, Receiver, D-Backs Session Pt. 1
PSR Big Camp Series: Linebacker Session Pt. 1
PSR Big Camp Series: Offensive Line Session Pt. 1
PSR Big Camp Series: Running Back Session Pt. 1
