Crown College Camp Top LB/DB Standouts

Resuming our coverage of the Crown College Football camp that took place on Saturday, we take a look at the back-end of the defense, focusing on the second and third lines of defense. The Polars boasted an outstanding group of LBs and DBs last season, with 5 players from these groups combined earning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) All-Conference selections last season as they played a major part in the Polars' turnaround. At the camp, the group was limited as there weren't many designated players at these positions competing, but there was plenty to like from this group that could see themselves filling in these prestigious shoes in the near future. Today, we take a look at 7 LB/DB standouts from the Crown College Football camp from Saturday!    [player_tooltip player_id='2238136' first='Mason' last='Anderson'] was a bit of an interesting one to track as a standout basketball player for Legacy Christian Academy, and he also stood out as a leader on the B-squad for Anoka's football team last season at QB. Anderson made his presence known on Saturday at LB, and he was without a doubt the best player at that position. Anderson does a great job reading the QB's eyes while being able to keep up with fast receivers even on routes that track long distances. He shows a strong knack for pass-coverage skills, showing exceptional ball-skills and timing on his attacks while also intercepting multiple passes on Saturday. Anderson should make a smooth transition into the varsity lineup for the Tornadoes entering his junior season.     Izaiah Duncan emerged as a solid contributor for Forest City's defense as a sophomore, and his growth continued to show itself with his performance in front of Crown's coaching staff. Duncan flashed great range, being able to jam RBs on their routes, demonstrating solid footwork to stay tight on their routes, and flashing great hands, being able to swat the ball away as well as distract the RB's ball-tracking ability when trying to catch the ball deep. With his growth over this offseason, Duncan is entering 2026 with a lot of momentum amidst growing anticipation for a potential breakout campaign in his junior season.     [player_tooltip player_id='2238144' first='Keshunn' last='Mosley'] had his fair share of ups and downs on Saturday, but he flashed a lot of athleticism and raw potential to emerge as a breakout for the Warriors' defense as he enters his senior season. Mosley immediately stood out with his impressive testing results, posting a 4.76 40 yard time during testing. Mosley flashed fleet and fluid movement, rotating his hips and changing direction on a dime, while possessing the speed to keep up with faster RBs that will be vital for his performance in stopping the run and the pass. There is still room for improvement to refine his mechanics and reach a level of balance to maintain consistency throughout, but the athleticism is clearly there. Mosley could be a great player in the makings as he continues to fine-tune his mechanics.     Isaac Workman is a bit of an undersized athlete playing at TE and OLB, but he does flash the potential move make a successful transition as a LB/Safety hybrid defender. Workman was tight in coverage, showcasing sound footwork, and he played very well beyond his size, being able to outstretch his length to swat passes and even forcing WRs off their feet on several of their routes. Workman flashes the skills to move over as a CB or as a DB/Nickel type defender that may better suit his size at the next level.     Being listed as a DB/RB prospect, Lamar McInnis saw the majority of his reps on Saturday playing in the secondary, where he flashed potential as a Nickel DB. McInnis played well as an overhang defender against the slot receivers, being able to jam receivers off their routes and disrupt the timing with the QBs trying to hit their targets just as they break on their routes. McInnis showed solid footwork, and gives little separation, being able to stay toe-to-toe with quicker WRs on their routes. He could use some more bulk to handle playing as an outside CB, but McInnis possesses the skills to stand out in the secondary going forward, and Crown sees that ability as well, with McInnis receiving his first offer from the Polars shortly after his appearance.     One of the most recognizable names in our system that appeared on Saturday, [player_tooltip player_id='1581337' first='Antonio' last='Barajas'] expectedly stood out among the CB group as one of the top performers on Saturday. Barajas has had a busy offseason so far, competing at several D3 camps as well as the Gophers' camp earlier this month, but despite his primary position being at WR, Barajas made a much bigger presence in the secondary at Crown. With solid speed and making good use of his route-running ability translating onto defense, Barajas is able to keep up with fast WRs on their vertical routes while showcasing great timing and hand-fighting skills to swat the ball out of the WR's hands. Barajas should continue to stand out as a two-way player for the Raiders, and it will be interesting to see which side he'll end up playing on at the next level.     Rounding out this group is [player_tooltip player_id='2152810' first='Cole' last='Brinkman'], a standout from the talented, yet overlooked NYA Raiders team, who also flashed strong skills at the outside CB position. Brinkman possesses great length and a solid wingspan to garner leverage against his WRs, while giving little leeway for WRs in terms of separation and possessing the speed to keep up against go-balls to break up the deep pass. Brinkman has garnered attention from multiple D3 schools over this offseason, and I think it's only a matter of time before Brinkman starts receiving offers to play at the next level.
