Our Prep Redzone Exposure Camp was on Friday, as over 70 athletes from across the state (and a few from out of state) came to compete in front of college coaches. We'll have plenty of coverage from the event this week, and we've already taken a bird's-eye view of the camp. Here, we're continuing our positional breakdowns by getting technical with our breakdowns of the seven running backs.

We had seven running backs in attendance from the classes of 2027-2029, and here we'll have something on all of them.

2027 Running Backs Impress

ALA-Johnston's [player_tooltip player_id='1649868' first='Michael' last='Beasley'] played a bunch of receiver last season, so perhaps it was unsurprising that he looked the most comfortable catching passes out of the backfield. He showed wiggle, burst, and a natural feel for route-running.

Instead of just running to a spot, he was one of the best at selling his routes with intent. There wasn't a lot of wasted movement. Rather, every move he made was made with purpose.

[player_tooltip player_id='1634632' first='Jaden' last='Hartsfield'] also impressed me as a receiver, but that's a bit more surprising. A power back with elite contact balance, Hartsfield ran for over 2,500 yards, but had only 10 career receptions in two years as a starter at Southern Nash. I think we could see more of that aspect of his game at Wake Forest during his senior year. He thrived in open-field drills as a back, making some of the best linebackers in attendance look silly.

He has a Division-I grade from us, and we think he'll thrive as a between-the-tackles runner with good burst and vision.

First Look at Two 2028s

Both of our 2028s signed up a bit later in the process, so I didn't spend a ton of time pre-scouting. I like that sometimes, because I get a fresh look on the actual night of the camp.

Wakefield's [player_tooltip player_id='2192276' first='Nirah' last='Harrington'] doesn't have a ton of varsity experience, but looks like a guy who can step in and contribute next season. In one-on-ones, he was one of the best at the catch point, even on plays where he didn't generate a ton of separation.

He tested well, showing some explosion with a 9'3" broad jump, and that showed up in some of the drills.

Mooresville's Owen Dill was one of the steadier backs in attendance. He didn't have some of the highlights that a couple of other guys had, but he didn't make many—if any—mistakes throughout the night. He's a transfer from Ambassador Christian, and I wonder what kind of role he'll play with Mooresville, but overall, I thought he was very solid.

Impressive 2029s

To be honest, none of the 2029s popped off the page pre-camp. In hindsight, I was wrong, and I'll own that.

[player_tooltip player_id='2070653' first='Jamaree' last='Russell'] made a small contribution to A.L. Brown's varsity team in 2025, but it was as a receiver. That checked out, given his night on Friday. I thought he was the best running back, regardless of class, in the receiving portion of camp. He showed purpose and had a plan with every route. It didn't hurt his case that he made two catches that elicited cheers from the onlooking crowd and some of his fellow competitors.

Hickory Grove Christian running back [player_tooltip player_id='2155410' first='Liam' last='Watson'] flashed as both a receiver out of the backfield and in drill work. He's a smaller guy, but he has the frame to add weight and the burst to create problems for defenses. I liked the flashes that I saw, and if he can become more consistent, I think he'll be one to watch.

Cannon School's [player_tooltip player_id='2092465' first='Jaiden' last='Colon'] was one of the most pleasant surprises for me on Friday. He has good size (5'10," 175 pounds) and was one of the smoothest backs in attendance. Every drill was sharp with every step purposeful. He worked hard in every drill (something that doesn't always happen), and was rewarded with some excellent reps.
