Our Prep Redzone Exposure Camp was on Friday, as over 70 athletes from across the state (and a few from out of state) came to compete in front of college coaches. We're well into our extensive coverage of the event. We've already taken a bird's-eye view of the camp, and we're in the process of breaking down every player in attendance by position. Here, we're continuing our positional breakdowns by looking at an impressive defensive line group.

We had 10 defensive linemen in attendance on Friday. Here are some scouting notes on each.

Young Guys Flash

I was interested to see Wake Christian's [player_tooltip player_id='2005526' first='Maddox' last='Laws'], one of the top 8-man defenders in the state. He's young and has plenty of time to develop. It was fun to see what kind of pass-rushing moves he had, especially in five-man offensive line alignments. His 76-inch wingspan speaks to his length, and I expect him to continue to develop physically.

Fellow rising sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2199074' first='Cameron' last='Freeman'] can play edge or off the ball, but we liked his ability to get after the quarterback as a standup edge rusher. There's little wasted movement, and he gets off the line in a hurry. There's no rush for him to contribute, but don't be surprised if he flashes for a strong Rolesville defensive line in 2026.

Plenty of Talented 2028s

We had five 2028s, and I thought Leesville Road's [player_tooltip player_id='2184175' first='Wyatt' last='Gardner'] and Summerville (S.C.) edge rusher Demarcus King were near the top amongst a really strong group.

Gardner didn't have a huge 2025 season, but I expect that to change in 2026. Right now, he's a bit undersized, but with a frame to add weight. He has fantastic bend, probably the best of everybody in attendance, and his 4.81-second 40 bodes well for his long-term profile as a college prospect. I liked his pass-rushing plan, as he won some reps on secondary moves.

King's short-area quickness is obvious in both testing and drills. He finished in the top seven overall in both the L-Drill and pro shuttle, then won with a great get-off and strong hands in one-on-ones. He's not the tallest guy, and there's a chance he'll move inside next season, but wherever he lines up, he should win often.

Hough edge rusher [player_tooltip player_id='1046790' first='Brayden' last='Hunt'] has added a ton of weight this offseason without losing much in the quickness and burst departments. He actually took a few reps inside and held his own there, too. He's a high-level prospect with plenty of promise.

[player_tooltip player_id='1670898' first='Colton' last='Martin'] is a two-way lineman for North Stanly, and while he thrives on the offensive line, I prefer him defensively. He's a strong kid, especially for his size. That allows him to match up against much bigger offensive linemen without giving ground.

[player_tooltip player_id='2183742' first='Anthony' last='Ward Jr']. flashed some excellent reps. Though he played on the junior varsity squad last year, the depth chart should open up a bit for him to make an impact in 2026 at Rolesville. He's an interior guy with good hands who could thrive as a gap-shooting three-technique.

Don't Miss These 2027s

Finally, we'll talk about the rising seniors. We had three very different defensive linemen in the 2027 class on Friday.

American Leadership Academy-Johnson defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='2147433' first='Joshua' last='Williams'] isn't the biggest guy, but he's strong for his size and has a good first step. I liked his effort as a pass-rusher, and I think he can have a big impact in 2025.

I was excited to watch [player_tooltip player_id='1715229' first='Ty' last='Hefner'], a late-bloomer who exploded onto the scene last season for Newton-Conover. He showed some great lateral quickness as a pass-rusher, something I didn't exactly expect after he had just one sack last season. His calling card will be that he's a versatile run-stopper who can both clog gaps and create penetration. Friday's performance showed his potential.

I didn't know much about Rolesville edge rusher [player_tooltip player_id='2184596' first='Kamaury' last='Corbett'], but I came away really impressed with the rising senior. Buried on a deep depth chart last season kind of hid his talent, but after seeing him on Friday, I think he'll have a breakout senior year. Despite measuring just under six feet, he has a 6-foot-5 wingspan and an array of pass-rushing moves. I like that he showed an inside move, and his first-step was the best of anybody in attendance.
