Preseason X Factors: Oakland Patriots

<p>The Oakland Patriots are coming off an undefeated season that concluded with their second straight state championship, but the 2026 season will be a new challenge for head coach Kevin Creasy as the team offers more explosive playmaking, but will be searching for several players to step up with larger roles in his fundamental scheme.</p>   <p>Every year, there are several core pieces for Oakland that can handle business from a variety of alignment and are the glue that holds that year's team together.</p>   <p>This year will be no different and the Patriots will need these five prospects to take the next step this season to push for another title run.</p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 RB [player_tooltip player_id='2181093' first='Adrian' last='Peebles']</h2>   <p>Multiple running backs are transferring in to Oakland this offseason, each adding something different, but [player_tooltip player_id='2181093' first='Adrian' last='Peebles'] fits the prototype of the tailback that the Patriots tend to rely on to anchor the offense.</p>   <p>Listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, he has a big and strong frame that will help him consistently work in between the tackles in an offense that prides itself in consistently winning in that aspect.</p>   <p>While the team features several all-purpose backs with legit home-run ability to complement, it will be up to Peebles to be the primary early down tailback that becomes the engine on the offensive side of the ball.</p>   <p>He will be a newcomer to know this season as he will be an essential aspect to the success of Oakland as they push to make it three straight state championship victories.</p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2028 WR [player_tooltip player_id='1030094' first='JaVonni' last='Malone']</h2>   <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1030094' first='JaVonni' last='Malone'] was a welcome addition last season that stepped up for the team as a reliable receiving option over the middle of the field for a Patriots offense that embraced explosive passing plays with increased talent level in the quarterback room.</p>   <p>It seems as if the team will embrace the explosive potential of the offense even more this season as Malone will become the clear top receiver this fall. He is someone that the coaching staff has full confidence in and could be in store for a very productive season while catching passes from [player_tooltip player_id='424644' first='Kam' last='Morton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='866735' first='Donte' last='Cameron'].</p>   <p>He has legit playmaking ability on both sides of the ball and very well could be forced to step into a legit role at cornerback if other players on the team do not step up this offseason and fall. Regardless, he will at least serve as high-level depth in the secondary for an unit that lacks experienced options.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/drew_toennies/status/1973901586838778001?s=20 </div></figure>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2029 OL/DL [player_tooltip player_id='1305173' first='Trenton' last='Gibbs']</h2>   <p>There are a lot of talented offensive lineman on the team, which makes it difficult to single out one as the biggest glue piece of the unit, but the versatility that rising sophomore gives the team can not be understated and he fits the description given earlier perfectly.</p>   <p>As a freshman, he lined up at guard, tight end, H-back, defensive line and on special teams — making an impact consistently in a variety of settings.</p>   <p>He is very athletic and was effective working to the second level, whether working up to the linebackers or as a puller, and that will be something he will be relied upon to provide at a higher level this season.</p>   <p>His versatility includes his natural position along the defensive line, where he should step into a much larger role after the team lost a lot of production up front on that side of the ball. He will be a key piece of the team whose versatility and talent will help ease concerns in the trenches.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/TrentonGibbsjr_/status/1998867279610835147?s=20 </div></figure>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 LB [player_tooltip player_id='906648' first='Chevy' last='Armour']</h2>   <p>The Patriots have benefitted the last couple of seasons from a plethora of playmaking linebackers at the second level of the defense, but they have since graduated, leaving the rising senior as the new leader of the defense.</p>   <p>He will be the anchor of the front seven from his inside linebacker position and will have to lead the way for the front seven that will be counting on a lot of relatively inexperienced options to step up in larger roles this fall.</p>   <p>Look for Armour to be the communicator of the defense and keep everything running properly from the middle of the field.</p>   <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 DB [player_tooltip player_id='904730' first='Velon' last='Henderson']</h2>   <p>It is time for Henderson to put it all together to reach a new level of his potential as he should handle a full-time starting role at the cornerback position this season. His traits of length, athleticism and ball skills should help him take away opposing receivers in space for a secondary unit that will be starved for new playmakers.</p>   <p>Henderson has been a part of the rotation during the previous two seasons, but the team will need his best season this fall after losing multiple SEC commits on the backend of the defense.</p>   <p>He has all the tools to be a high-level defensive back and has shown plenty of flashes already.
