Football Standouts Leave Mark On Spring Sports Season

The school year has rapidly reached its end, and with that comes graduation season, spring sports state championships, and spring and summer practices getting underway for fall sports.   Plenty of student-athletes in South Carolina fall into more than one of those categories. Multi-sport standouts carried their strong performances in football season on to the basketball court and wrestling mat in the winter, and many more kept plenty busy and stayed sharp during the spring sports season.   This is a look at the latter. Here, we're taking a glance at the state's football players who also turned in championship-level performances in track and field, baseball and soccer.   [player_tooltip player_id='1672927' first='Ty' last='Abrams'] RB, Newberry   Abrams earned All-State baseball honors in Class 3A after helping the Bulldogs to a 15-win season and a trip to the state playoffs.   Da'Shaun Albany ATH, Ridgeland   Albany won the Class A title in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.60 seconds, then added a silver medal with a second-place performance in the 200.   Jayden Boyd WR/DB, Westwood   Boyd added one last state championship to a decorated resume, winning the 5A, Division II title in the 400-meter dash at 48.13 seconds.   [player_tooltip player_id='1816213' first='Cody' last='Branham'] TE, Central   Branham was an All-State baseball selection in Class 2A, batting .492 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 23 runs scored.   Julian Brown WR, Myrtle Beach   One of the nation's very best in the high jump, Brown soared to a 5A, Division II title with a jump of 6 feet, 10.5 inches.   [player_tooltip player_id='1819889' first='Daniel' last='Butts'] ATH, Airport   Butts earned Class 4A All-State honors in baseball, posting a 7-1 record on the mound with a 2.84 ERA while helping Airport to the Lower State championship.    [player_tooltip player_id='1822830' first='Logan' last='Byrd'] ATH, Latta   Byrd has batted .351 with 22 runs scored and 24 RBI while also going 3-2 on the mound with a 3.41 ERA in 12 appearances to help Latta reach the Class A state championship series.   Jamani Canty OL/DL, Calhoun County   Canty finished his senior season with two first-place throws at the Class A state championship meet, with a throw of 161-3.75 in the discus and 55-9.25 in the shot put. Grayson Crowe WR, Boiling Springs   Crowe finished off his senior season with a 5A, Division I state championship in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.02 seconds. [player_tooltip player_id='1820390' first='Brady' last='Dantzler'] QB, James Island   Dantzler was huge in James Island's Class 5A, Division I Lower State championship series win over River Bluff, homering in game one and helping set the tone with an early RBI in game two.    [player_tooltip player_id='1856584' first='Tyler' last='Davis'] ATH, Hampton County   Davis, the second-ranked 110-meter hurdler in South Carolina, won the Class 2A state championship with a time of 14.39 seconds.   [player_tooltip player_id='1819556' first='Rome' last='Derenzo'] ATH, St. James   Derenzo earned Class 5A, Division II All-State honors in baseball after batting .435 with 35 runs scored and 15 RBI.   [player_tooltip player_id='1821850' first='Cooper' last='Derrick'] ATH, Chapin   Derrick has posted a 2.49 ERA in 12 appearances on the mound during Chapin's run to the 5A, Division II baseball championship series.   Kha'Mari Eaddy RB, Marlboro County   Eaddy brought home a 3A state championship in the shot put with a throw of 52-3.5 feet. Harris made as good of a case as anyone by sweeping the 5A, Division I state titles in the 100-meter (10.40 seconds) and 200-meter (21.28) sprints.   [player_tooltip player_id='1820994' first='Carter' last='Hawkins'] DB, Timberland   Hawkins won the Class 2A state title in the triple jump at 46-8.5 and also finished second in the long jump.   [player_tooltip player_id='1467847' first='Beau' last='Hite'] QB, Emerald   Hite earned Class 4A All-State honors in baseball after leading the Vikings with a .352 batting average with 12 runs scored.   [player_tooltip player_id='1824362' first='Luke' last='Huggins'] ATH, Latta   The freshman has been a key piece during Latta's run to the Class A baseball championship series, batting .260 with 24 runs scored and 19 RBI while posting 1-0 record in seven appearances on the mound.    [player_tooltip player_id='1821843' first='Judah' last='Lee'] ATH, Green Sea Floyds   Lee had a couple of podium finishes of his own at the Class A state championships, bringing home the title in the long jump and finishing third in the 100.   Wade Leventis WR, Waccamaw   Leventis won the Class 3A state championship in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47 seconds.   Lebron Lyles OL/DL, Newberry   Lyles scooped up a 3A state championship in the discus with a throw of 150 feet, and for good measure snagged a silver medal in the shot put.   Mekhi Malcolm OL/DL, T.L. Hanna   Malcolm dominated on his way to a 5A, Division II title in the shot put with a throw of 64 feet, 11.5 inches, and he added a second-place finish in the discus throw. [player_tooltip player_id='2106758' first='Carter' last='Nash'] RB, Dorman   Nash, a big-time freshman at Dorman, delivered one of the clutch hits of the season with a big two-run homer against Spartanburg to help win the 5A, Division I Upper State title series.   [player_tooltip player_id='1821001' first='Jonah' last='Poston'] ATH, Hannah-Pamplico   Poston made the Class A All-State baseball team after batting .338 with eight extra-base hits, 22 RBI and 18 runs scored while posting a 5-2 record with a 1.58 ETA in 14 appearances on the mound.   Caleb Raysor WR/DB, Gray Collegiate   Raysor reigned supreme in Class 4A in the 110-meter hurdles, winning the state championship with a time of 14.48 seconds. Flora's run to the Class 4A state championship series, and he picked up the win in the Falcons' Upper State clincher.   [player_tooltip player_id='1036721' first='Tre' last='Segarra'] RB, Byrnes   Segarra (pictured) earned Class 5A, Division I All-State soccer honors at the forward position after tallying a team-best 14 goals and seven assists as Byrnes finished atop a three-way tie in Region II-5A and earned the No. 3 seed in the Upper State playoff bracket.    Jessie Shelley WR/DB, Silver Bluff   Silver Bluff's speedster lived up to his reputation, as Shelley won the Class 3A state title in the 100-meter dash at 10.67 seconds.   Kaden Stewart WR, Hilton Head   Stewart sprinted his way to a Class 4A state championship in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 46.97 seconds.   [player_tooltip player_id='1422635' first='Anthony' last='Strong'] DL, Cheraw   Strong was an All-State pick in Class 2A baseball after batting .460 with six home runs, 15 doubles, 33 RBI and 27 runs scored to go with a 6-4 record on the mound with a 1.69 ERA in 12 appearances.   Jordan Strong ATH, Lewisville   Strong won the Class A state championship in the triple jump with a measurement of 45-6. Levi Ward OL, York   Ward shared top honors in Class 4A in the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, and he also placed second in the discus throw.   Roper Wentzky QB, A.C. Flora   Wentzky added more honors to a decorated high school career by earning a nod on the Class 4A All-State baseball team while helping lead the Falcons to the state championship series.
