<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>COLUMBIA | </strong>The defensive backs group at the PRZ Exposure Series camp at Richland Northeast wasn't a deep one, but they played really well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Despite having a really high work rate in one-on-one drills thanks to their small number, the defenders came up big on a bunch of plays against the QBs and WRs on hand. Most of those guys are younger, with five of the seven rising juniors and sophomores. Here's a look at some of the guys who stood out.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>First, we can look at three guys who weren't part of the 2028 class in <a title="Future Stars Game: 2028 Prospects That Caught My Eye – Finale" data-smartlink="5118ba83912478883e67bbd8bcade026" href="https://prepredzone.com/2023/07/future-stars-game-2028-prospects-that-caught-my-eye-finale/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=5118ba83912478883e67bbd8bcade026&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">South Carolina</a>. Gilbert 2027 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1664620' first='Gavin' last='Elliott']</strong> is a big, rangy guy who is capable of winning some physical battles and bumping guys off their route early with some <a title="Low Ego-High Output 2028" data-smartlink="6836bd45d49e7ea3d5124993016b244f" href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/05/low-ego-high-output-2028/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=6836bd45d49e7ea3d5124993016b244f&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">power</a>. He made a couple of <a title="Massachusetts Sophomore Film Room: New Stockrisers" data-smartlink="91b725b3c39c81d62155f3b9145429b6" href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/12/massachusetts-sophomore-film-room-new-stockrisers/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=91b725b3c39c81d62155f3b9145429b6&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">good plays</a> with the ball in the air as well. Chapin 2029 <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2168025' first='Master' last='Sims']</strong> showed some ability beyond his years, as he won some <a title="PRZTN Winter Showcase: Standout Underclassmen" data-smartlink="4652d0e907cb5a3e2ed6ca5cbef25208" href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/01/prztn-winter-showcase-standout-underclassmen/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=4652d0e907cb5a3e2ed6ca5cbef25208&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">battles</a> against much bigger and older players. <a title="On Campus: Lake Wylie Chargers" data-smartlink="4d55a3d3d21a68f71c36d437ee0aa886" href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/05/on-campus-lake-wylie-chargers/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=4d55a3d3d21a68f71c36d437ee0aa886&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">Lake Wylie</a> 2029 <strong>Tori Wiggins</strong> is already 6-feet tall and showed <a title="Eight More Players to Know from PRZ Combine at Fort Mill" data-smartlink="2cb11e835365ea31bfa8eae376b0211d" href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/05/eight-more-players-to-know-from-prz-combin-at-fort-mill/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=2cb11e835365ea31bfa8eae376b0211d&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">great speed and coverage ability</a>, turning in a couple of exciting downfield plays. And while <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1974721' first='Nick' last='Varga']</strong> is a 2028, he's from <a title="Georgia Rising Stars in the Class of 2028" data-smartlink="7189cca2236ff354733577a975b69881" href="https://prepredzone.com/2025/10/georgia-rising-stars-in-the-class-of-2028/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=7189cca2236ff354733577a975b69881&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">East Forsyth</a> in North Carolina. He was also among the <a title="Winter Exposure Showcase Standouts: DB's" data-smartlink="831c0b6c1516574fd376b557f6e4ef0f" href="https://prepredzone.com/2023/12/winter-exposure-showcase-standouts-dbs/?itm_campaign=wp-parsely&amp;itm_medium=smart-link&amp;itm_term=831c0b6c1516574fd376b557f6e4ef0f&amp;itm_source=smart-linking">top DBs</a> at the camp, with a pair of pass deflections and a pick.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>That leaves three talented 2028s, and they did plenty to distinguish themselves. Wren's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2067768' first='Sloan' last='Sanders']</strong> (pictured) and Gray Collegiate's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1814158' first='Rj' last='Oliver']</strong> were part of a rotation on the same side of the field as Varga, and the play of all three seemed to elevate the others. Sanders, in particular, challenged everything thrown his way, knocking away a couple of passes and nearly intercepting another. He ran well and showed a great ability to turn and find the ball. Oliver did it with speed. He routinely faced a size disadvantage, but he ran with every receiver he faced, adjusted to the ball in the air, was physical at the line, and knocked a few passes away. The trio of Sanders, Oliver, and Varga were the standouts of the group. Meanwhile, Spring Valley's <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1693513' first='Kavion' last='Dawson']</strong> was more than holding his own on the other side of the field. Dawson picked off a pair of passes last season, and Friday made it easy to see how, as he's got good size and great speed. He consistently covered well downfield and made nice adjustments late in routes.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
